Moto G5 Plus - Primary camera review.

As I said goodbye to my Lenovo K3 Note, which by the way had great lens too for its price, I was confronted by a sea of options for a new phone. But most importantly I was looking for a budget phone with good camera. Owing to all the hype about its 12 MP camera with f/1.7 aperture, the Moto G5 Plus immediately bagged my attention. After considering a lot of opinions, I decided to go ahead with the Moto G5 Plus. Anticipation and expectation filled me as I placed the order on Amazon.

A week later, my phone got delivered and I immediately put the lens to test. The camera segment has five variations. The auto Photo mode, the Slow Motion video mode, the Panorama mode, the Video mode and the Professional camera mode.

I tried the auto Photo mode first and honestly, I was quite disappointed. I was in my room and it was close to dusk, so the natural light was very dim. I got a lot of noise in my pictures and they appeared very grainy. So I switched on the lights and even that was not very effective. Even though the Professional mode offers manual settings for focus, white balance, exposure, ISO and shutter speed, they don't particularly help in low-light situations.

However, the camera gives great results in well lit areas. The picture quality of shots captured in daylight are excellent and the same goes for good artificial lighting. The details captured are clearly seen while zooming in and the colours are prominent.

The Professional camera mode also offers the macro lens feature. But it only works at a certain distance from the object and consequently it doesn't facilitate detailed macro shots of minute objects.

In conclusion, the Moto G5 Plus sports a commendable camera for its price. The results are better illustrated in the two pictures above. The first picture was shot in a room with 3 CFL lights on (one from left, one from right and one from top) and with the following camera settings: f/1.7, 1/10, 4.28 mm and ISO200. I shot the second picture in broad daylight with the following camera settings: f/1.7, 1/592, 4.28 mm ISO64.
