I am going to take the interested few on a restoration ride over the coming months.

The Yamaha rd 250lc, 350lc & 350lc ypvs series are one of my favourite series of bikes, add into that mix the rd 500lc and you have a near perfect selection of 1980's screamers, 2 stroke heaven for some, like me.

I managed to get hold of this pair in 1 deal for £1450 or $1885, they currently sell for this year 1984 (both are 84) for between £6000 - £8000 each example 1. example 2. I do all the work myself, except for re-boring barrels as I do not have that tooling. I will be rebuilding both engines, doing all the paintwork from frame to panels, and everything else, nobody else will be involved.

The one with the red petrol tank will be the first one I am going to restore, the other will be donor parts for now, I have finished the Suzuki x4 restoration after finishing the petrol tank yesterday with a coat of 2k lacquer as below.

Not enough shine you say?

I have yet to buff that lacquer up to high gloss, as the petrol tank needs 24 hours to dry, I leave them for 48 hours to be on the safe side, I messed up last week and had to strip it back to bare metal (again) though it was all my own fault, and I knew better than to rush coats, that is the beauty of doing it yourself, you have nobody else to blame, so the buck stops at me!

So there you have it, that is my next two projects this week and for a month or two, weather permitting.

I only aim to keep one after they are done, so the other will be up for grabs.

Have a superb day, 27c and sunny here.

Where is that solar post? I keep wondering if you are going to share some useful information for others to be able to learn from some of your experience?

I will wander with you through your cycle posts but they seem more like show and tell and not so much a learning experience.

Maybe you should consider showing folks how you actually get shit done? So we can try to do it ourself too? You know with all the boring details. You know the ones that are critical to getting the job done right?

You are truly living the life now can you find a way to enjoy it while it is available?

I hear ya, I will do that post for you, I was waiting to get a good battery for the solar post, and the front brake hose split on my car yesterday, so I had to (un safely) take the car to a place to order a new hose for today, I used the handbrake the whole way, whilst there I bought a new battery for my car, and will be using the old battery which is still good for the solar post next week, I am fixing the car brakes today, and will add more detail to the restoration posts with hints and tips, thank you for the nudge in the right direction, I honestly thought nobody was interested, my bad.

how on earth do you have time to do all this stuff?

it's freezing cold and pissing down in sunny nz

i would post a photo but on this account i'm trying to do some comments with no pics and no caps to overcome my analness

There you go about anuses again lol.
I retired at 40, so have a lot of time after harvest, and it is after harvest lol, I also hired some people that know how to farm my land, unlike me, I can write my farming knowledge on the back of a postage stamp, and still have room to lick it, owning a farm in no way makes a farmer, still nice and warm here bro. :-)

The tank is coming along grea mate. And i am looking forward to following along with the resto's. Looks like the weather there is just right. Enjoy the resto work and catch you later.

Cheers, just got in from a 2 hour cycle ride with the family, there is 1 hill I have never made it up as yet, I came within 30 feet of defeating the bugger just, next time, I will have that bugger next time, and headphones belatedly posted today, I gave them to a young lady to post for me, as she goes into town more than me, and she posted them today.

So close to making the hill mate smash that hill next time :) Thanks so much for sending those headphone mate cheers.

Eh no worries my friend, you will have to sign for them on arrival, I sent them tracked and insured.

Great top job mate thanks. :)

Back in the 80's a friend let me take his brand new RD250 for a spin - it had a good powerband.

Everyone was lusting after a Katana 1100 back then - the Lambo of motorbikes!

And all the kats got smashed, and all them rd's are still getting thrashed, only 1 winner there, yes the power band is ace, though with the 350's I am doing, they have a powervalve, it aids mid range to smooth out the power, though as they are 350cc, you still get a good kick up the ass when the real power comes in over 6000 rpm. :-)
