Travels With Connie #34 Interlude Julian California

Sometimes I know exactly where I am going. In that case it’s easy, pick a route and go.

More often I have an idea where I’d like to end up, and generally speaking a direction to go.

Once in a while I just follow the front wheel and see where it takes me.

Julian California

It is an interlude! I had a desperate need to get some air on my face so rode to Julian, CA this week. It's a former mining town in the Laguna Mountains of Southern California that is now famous for it's apple orchards and Apple Pie.

I was actually hoping to see some flowers on the way up, but I was probably a month too early. The only blooms I saw were some Lavender here in a public area right in town.

No sense waiting. On the day before Pi day I had come for a piece of pie. The Julian Pie Company has become my go to place there.



For those of us who worship at the alter of extremely good pie, this place provides a stained glass window to properly set the mood.



There aren't as many choices mid week as there are on the weekend, but still the selection is difficult.



The old standby. Dutch Apple, it was at least as good as it looks. Yes, it was warm.



There isn't a road that goes to Julian that isn't motorcycle friendly, so you always see some cool bikes. This MotoGuzzi certainly fits into that category.



So does this Indian that was parked right next to me. I don't understand the fringe, but it sure was looking good!



Julian is a wonderful tourist town that has much more than just pie shops. This place is in a building from the 1880s that still offers Spam on it's breakfast menu and has a real life Soda Fountain. Handmade Cherry Soda, anyone? Yes, please.



Julian is a great day ride for me. Some really nice roads and less than 350 miles round trip. I come here often, and will try to catch some blooms the next time.
