Chronicles of Alan: Motorcycle Days 1

in motorcycles •  8 years ago

When I was 12 years old My Family moved from Pretoria to Florida Park , Roodepoort.
At about 14 years old My Dad was given a Berini 50cc Moped by a friend which my Brothers and I took great delight in riding illegally around the block we stayed on.
George , My Uncle https://steemit.com/family/@awgbibb/chronicles-of-alan-family-my-uncle-george used to come visit us on a 50cc Cimatti , which I coveted greatly. A Beautiful Italian Sports Bike, a year or two later he sold it to me for about R20.00.

I could never leave anything alone for long ,

so stripped it down ,and modified the Crankshaft to full circle , giving it a bit more “ GO”.
Not too far from us was a rubbish dump with a dirt road into it and as I took a bend on it, slid up the Middelmannetjie, ( Afrikaans saying for the raised centre section of a dirt road used by motor vehicles) and dropped it as I went over and down into the other lane!

Don’t you hate it when you have no one else to blame your misfortune on?

I later fitted a 150cc Villiers Motor in it!
In addition obtained a pranged racing Go-Kart with a bent frame that my Dad helped me rebuild. When you revved the motor up and dropped the clutch, would do a wheelie! Never saw another Kart that could do this?

I never did get a licence for a Moped , In SA you had to be 16 to get this.

I bought an Ariel Leader 250cc from Douglas A ( A fellow who passed Matric with 6 Distinctions at age 15) just after I came out the army, sort of a cross between a Motorcycle and a Scooter. You did not have to wear a helmet , those days, I just loved the freedom and the wind in your face.
This was the Bike I left at the Town Hall in:- https://steemit.com/drunk/@gavvet/chronicles-of-alan-another-reason-i-do-not-drink-featuring-awgbibb-as-author

I am an insatiable Hoarder, and in a Short While had built up quite a collection.

There was a Bridge in Florida on 3rd Avenue om the Way to Florida Lake, as you go over the Bridge it does a 90 Degree left turn and then a 90 Degree right at the bottom, with an island in the centre, on this island was a pole with a small dustbin bolted to it ( No helmets necessary) , I came over the Bridge reallyfast one day and taking the right- hander, well heeled over, hit my head on the Dustbin!

Continuing on, down the road, wondering where the Stars came from at midday?

To those who have never ridden a Motorcycle there is no feeling like the wind in your face , and the feeling of control when you take bends , and accelerate!

Of course there is no feeling like when you know you are about to lose control, no Air-Bags ,and no bodywork to prevent direct hits with your Body!

As I have owned 66 Road Going Motorcycles ( actually 67 ) this will have a continuation.

Awesome story, my friend!

Reminds me of my growing up days with mopeds, a Honda 90, a Harley Sprint 250... Ah, good times... Good times! :)

😄😇😄

@creatr

Thank You My Friend, you have just reminded me of another Motorcycle, I had! I know the 90cc Honda well. When Harley Bought the Aermacchi Company , besides the Great Flat singles ,it also allowed them to win some class World Championship's ! I bought a 350cc with no piston as a Basket Case.

Usted querido amigo @awgbibbes un fans de las motocicletas, felicitaciones, muchas gracias por compartir esta historia.

Thank You My Good Friend , Much appreciated.
