Ride Safe

While riding back from visiting family on the other side of the state about a 400mi ride I encountered possibly the most unexpected scenario imaginable. I was riding down the highway at around 85-90mph passing a group of cars about an hour into my ride on a beautiful Sunday evening. As I approach the third car in the line, a silver sedan I notice something black come out of the car. The next thing I know my rear tire locks up and I slide off the road into the median. Somehow I manage to keep the bike up on 2 wheels and bring it to a stop back up on the shoulder of the highway.

As I get off the bike still trying to put together what happened I notice a pair of basketball shorts tangled up under my drive belt around the front pulley. The force of my rear tire stopping suddenly pulled my rear axle forward allowing the drive belt to slip off and get torn and the force of the shorts balling up under my pulley cover caused it to crack.

The damage caused left the bike unridable and I had to wait 3 1/2 hrs for a tow truck and $130 later for the tow and I'm trying to round up $300 to pay for damages before summers over and I deploy just thankful that I was able to keep the bike up and not get injured. So hopefully all you fellow riders stay cautious and expect the unexpected.
