My soon to be home is a special little place located 365 kilometres northwest of Brisbane Queensland, and about 100 kilometres west of Bundaberg. Nestled in the valley of Mount Perry,
I found this lovely specimen while bushwalking.
I felt like sharing photos of my quaint little town.
The discovery of copper and gold in the hills in 1869 resulted in the development of a mining town which quickly began to boom. Mount Perry Post Office opened on 26 July 1871 and was commonly known as Tenninering between 1882 and 1884. It boasted a population of around 2,000 people and 20 hotels during the early 1870s before the closure of the copper mines in 1877.

In 1884 the Bundaberg to Mount Perry railway line opened generating new growth for the town making it cheaper to transport copper ore. As quick as it came it was gone, a major drop in copper prices saw the mines close again.

Mount Perry was connected by a railway line to Bundaberg from 1884 until 1960 it took about 4hrs to get to Bundaberg on the train, so about 8hr round trip compared to 1hr each way today.
Boolboonda Tunnel was hand cut through a mountain as part of the railway line in 1883-84. At a short 192 metres in length it remains QLD longest, hand-cut, unsupported tunnel today.

A shire office and meeting room were built in 1959. there was q second boom period that began in the early 1900s, again short lived. The smelters closed in 1915, and Mount Perry adjusted to becoming a pastoral town.
Gold mining continues to be an important industry in the area, especially to Evolution Mining , Evolution Mining's a company that operates in town on the mount Rawdon side.
Mine production is derived from a single open pit, utilising conventional drill and blast, load and haul methodologies. The operation is one of their most reliable mines, that has produced more than 1.5 million ounces of gold since first production in 2001.
