The desire to translate this article was finally achieved thanks to the help of my old friend @jun.imaginer. Hopefully this article can be a reference for foreign tourists, when stepping foot into Mt. Kerinci

Mt. Kerinci " The Roof of Sumatra"

It is the highest mountain in Sumatra and the highest volcano in Southeast Asia. The weather above was not the same as the weather on the foothill. when its bright at the foothills , it could be windy and rainning storms above, or maybe the other way around. No one can guess, even the caretaker though.

For that it takes careful preparation to climb Mount Kerinci. It's feel grateful that the weather above friendly, there is no obstacle to the summit of the highest peak on the island of Sumatra. But if it comes extreme weather, do not be too pushy to the summit . Wait for the weather is a little friendly, so the climb can be continue.

As we climb, we met nature lovers from Jambi region. They claimed to have 3 days waiting, in order to summit to the top of the 3rd shelter. However they are only able to climb up to Tugu Yuda (monument of Yuda) . Windstorms always come when they start go to summit.

As a result, due to long storms that never go away. Sulfur crater of Mount Kerinci was issued smoke bell which it make us forced to go down, because it is feared of the sulfur fumes coming out of the crater that it made us cough and hard to breathe. And it keeps going for 3 days in a row. Finally they decided to go down.

Many climbers are missing on top of the mountain. Not because they are not able to continue the climb, but it is the weather above that is always changing. Do not push to insist and force yourself to the summit. Wait for the right time to be saved.

One of climber is Yuda Santika, often called by Yuda. He was lost in a storm when he was about to descend from Mt. Kerinci. Until now his body has not been found. According to the scattered story, he and his two friends forced themselves to rise upward when the wind storm still hit. At the moment going down, the sulfur fumes coming out of the crater are getting thicker. And he is separated from his friend.
When his team reached the camp, Yuda had not arrived yet. Until the next day waiting, Yuda had still not arrived yet. Until this writing down Yuda has not been found anywhere yet. To be sure his body has now merged with Kerinci's nature for sure.

To commemorate the missing of Yuda, the Friends of Nature Lovers build a monument in the estimate where the of Yuda last seen. The monument was named Tugu Yuda. Let us take s moment and read sura Al Fatihah !!!

It's just a simply little reminiscent from me, because there also a lot of who has been telling deeper story about Yuda.

We return again to "Mr. Paiman the Legend of Mt. Kerinci". For many years he had climbed Mt. Kerinci and hundreds and even thousands of people from all over the world had met him and escorted them to the Sumatran Roof. There are many happy stories and not a few sorrow stories that hit the climbers. But definitely Mt. Kerinci is a magnet for the Climber. Therefore there's a saying "Kerinci never break a promise"

Back in the day, there has been no lodging / homestay under the foot of Mount Kerinci. All climbers who want to climb their feet to Mount Kerinci always stay at Mr. Paiman Garden yard. Due to the large number of guests who arrived and stopped to rest, in 1976 Mr. Paiman conjured his home like a homestay for climbers.

Mr. Paiman never asked for room rent, all for free. If anyone want a cup coffee, meals, anybody can just straight to kitchen, help yourself according to your preferences. Aaah, Mr. Paiman, to us climbers you are like a Hero, give unconditionally, help without expecting anything.

"When mbah Paiman still alive (mbah : javanesse term for an elder man), staying here is free, mbah deliberately set many rooms available at home to accommodate all visitor who want to climb Mt. Kerinci" Said his grandson to me. "A year after the mbah dies we just ask for room rent, yes for the living necessities. But if you want to eat or drink, help yoursef, just think it's like your own house.

Paiman's Homestay is never empty, there are always people staying. Guests who visit also feel like a housemate to one another. No awkward, no shyness. All blend in the Paiman's Homestey.

There is something unique about in this inn. Almost all the guests who have stayed here and climbed Mount Kerinci, leaving his pictures on the living room wall. The photographs were captured when they managed to climb Mount Kerinci. There are about 300 photos displayed.

But there are some who fell, broke and not hung anymore. They process the photos film in the nearest studio photo, framed it and put it on the living room wall. It became an interesting decoration that colored the living room wall of Paiman's Homestay. The wall is like telling the stories of the journey reaching to the highest Mount in Asia. In the photo there is a prostration of gratitude, there are jumping excited, there are take off their clothes to show that they are not cold, which is opposite up there and there is pict of couples and nonetheless there is also photos that unable to seen again because of age.

We could spend half an hour to see all the photos that are displayed, to look for are our acquaintance there.

Here the thing, in addition to the photographs that adorn the living room. For the info, the cost for stay a night is not calculated per room, but count per person. Charge for a person is Rp.40.000 /night (about $3 to $5). So if you stay alone and don't bring any friends along, you may share a room with other visitor for saving, cause the room is fit for 4 people. But do not expect to join with the opposite sex. It's not allowed here.

There are so many stories about Mr. Paiman that I get from his wife, children and grandchildren. But I couldn't memorize any further. Later, when I could remembering again, I'll write it down and pass it on to all you guys steemian friends.
