Panoramic View from N.E.E.R Rd

First thing I guess is that you are wondering what N.E.E.R stands for. There used to be only one way out of Nikiski. There are a lot of Oil Tanks Oil facility and processing/shipping of oil and oil products. In the event of any catastrophic happening people would need a way out of town and the area. So being a progressive and mindful state at the time of the oil boom, and since really, they built the Nikiski Emergency Escape Route road. Well that is kind of a long name to fit on one street sign so it got shortened to NEER Road. Okay, you didn't come for the short road naming lesson, here is a fairly large panoramic view of the mountains from a portion of the escape road, (Actually it is from Marathon Oil Well Road), but no one refers to it by that, the whole road is the Nikiski Emergency Escape Route.

Big Long View

The road was even featured in one of the Discovery Channel Cop Shows, it was rather gruesome episode so if you interested you will just need to do the search yourself. If you did open it up and are wondering if there was a stitch glitch because of the white round area slightly right of center, that is actually the Weather Radome.

Next up since this is #mountainmonday, why not throw in a feathered friend also. I think I may feature a few more of this guy on Friday, we will have to wait and see what happens. I got this shot at the Kenai wildlife viewing platform. He went almost directly over my head. I feel fortunate he did not poop on me as some seagulls seem to like ruining peoples days

I think I will end with one more mountain shot since we are at the wildlife viewing platform, even though it was pretty much overcast and kind of a gloomyish day, I thought this cloud looked nice out over the mountains, so here it is.

#mountainmonday was bought to us by @keithboone, he is on a long vacation, but there are a lot of us that like sharing our mountain views, and I am sure some of the flat landers like seeing them. Have a nice week all.

I'm definitely a flatlander and I definitely like seeing them! Mountains and birds! Your photos are always great! Neer does have a scary connotation to the reason behind it. I hope it never gets used

When we lived out there we hoped never to hear the sirens, (tsunami warning type), because they would not blow for no reason, took a bit to get used to the first few times we heard the test blows, but after a bit we caught the cycle of the test shots, at least we were able to hear the horns, and they do have a warning system for that just in case event.

I feel the same way about our tornado sirens. They test them at noon on the first Thursday of the month and I am just glad I can hear them. I hope they help keep us all safe!

These are beautiful shots! I love the big cloud.

Sometimes even cloudy days can make for a good or at least decent picture. thanks for stopping by and enjoying.

Its really looked nice clouds over the mountains.

I hope people did open it to view larger thats such a cool panorama and thanks for the info about NEER

I used to drive that road every day, Sometimes there would be a traffic jam because of caribou. I forget how long the road is, but all gravel, during break up it was especially fun to drive, smashing through the puddles and hoping you don't stall out because of the water, but the water rooster tails in the rear view mirror were cool to see. Of course there was never a lot of traffic on the road, and for a gravel road the speed limit was 55. I don't know if that was the real speed limit or if someone just stole and planted the speed limit sign, but it was easy to do 55 especially day 3 after plowing/grading.

Driving roads like that reminds me of some trips in the Balkans years ago, fun exhilarating but a little crazy as well, if we were in a rush we just floored it some times how we made it safely back to camp sometimes has to be just pure luck I think looking back now
