A happy #mountainmonday Panoramic Views

Homer Alaska, Mountain Success, sort of

I was not real pleased with the pano from last week. This week I am a lot more happy. Two views, two pictures, 16 pictures in total all stitched up together. Each image below is comprised of 8 pictures. Why 8, well thats how many the program I use allows.

This first image is from the "End of The Road", on Homer Spit. Slightly left of center is a small area of really roughed up water, like the wake of a boat. many people talk about a ghost boat haunting the end of the spit, harassing the seagulls and the otters. No one has ever actually seen the boat itself, just the wake. The building on the right edge of the photo is the Lands End Resort, a pretty popular tourist place, some nice views on the back porch, been years since we have been in there, maybe will try it again before the tourist get here in full swing. This set of Pictures were steadied by the tripod and hands free clicker. I am trying a lot of different things out, I learn best through trial and error, and boy do I make a lot of errors when learning.

This next pano was taken close to the Seafarers Monument from its parking lot. Here we get to see what the mountains on the other side of the Lands End resort look like. I should have made the picture above the same size as this one, but I didn't, oh-well. This set of Pictures were hand held.

O-kay, about the ghost boat, as far as I know there is no ghost boat that haunts the harbour, there could be, but if there is I have not heard about it. The boat wake and missing boat is from the boat being in one picture, but not the next is all I can figure out as to why it disappeared from the image, in the pano above leaving only the wake in view.

Still it would make an interesting story, the Homer portal to nowhere.

I think this odd effect from my pano program was caused by the center image being a little bit bigger than the outside images, just thought it was a cool effect of the learning process, an error that is kind of artsy.

As you can see, it was a pretty nice weather day in Homer. The Top of the Hill Pullout was pretty much a frozen mess, so we did not stop there.

#mountainmonday is a tag that was brought to us by @keithboone, to see more cool mountains, his blog would be a good place to start.

You had me going with the story about the ghost ship! The panos are very well done, I don't see where the images have been joined. That's better than I've done with pano making. Beautiful mountains as always! Thanks so much for posting. Voted & resteemed

I was kind of surprised it erased the boat but left half of the wake. It disappears into the anchorage tie up and does not come out the other side.

I was all prepared to accept the ghost boat theory. Kind of wish it was true!

Great job with the panoramics! When you have views like that it is a great method to use to capture them. Really wonderful photos.

Yeah, I wanted to try and show the whole view, but thats hard to do, even with 8 images stitched together part of the view is still missing.

You did better than I ever did when I made an attempt to do that!

I've yet to stitch any images together, although my camera does have a setting for doing so. There are so many things I still need to try. One lifetime just isn't long enough.

I use a free program called "Photo Pad Editor" It's kind of annoying at times, but I did learn I need to have at least 20% overlap of pictures, and it will only stitch 8 pictures together. Resizing the image down is a necessity or it takes for ever and then you get an error message, not enough memory, that was annoying after waiting for an hour.

Resizing the image down is a necessity

Do you mean that each image used needs to be re-sized before doing the stitching? I wonder if it is just poor memory management of the software or if that would apply for all such software? Thanks for the heads-up though.

It is a free program, so memory management might play a part, but I also have an older system and not a whole lot of memory. The original picture sizes are 5568X3712 17.2 MB. so pretty big pictures.

Yes, I suppose one would only need to keep the originals that big if one wanted to print posters or billboards of the stitched images.

While I appreciate the vote, and do not like the idea of bid-bots, they are a part of steem and will likely never go away. They are like a tax that some people will pay to have perceived greater visibility of their post, or are utilized to increase their Reputation score. Once a tax, or entitlement has been issued they are very hard to get rid of.

I have used a manual vote bot before, but that was in support of a community minded account and all proceeds went to growing the account and support community members. That kind and type of bot I will use.

Nice mountain and others photography.

The Ghost ship makes for a cool image even if unintended thats a great Pano
