Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming

#mountainmonday @keithboone

I'm getting caught up today, and doing a mountain post!

After spending time in South Dakota visiting the Badlands and the Black Hills areas, and spending a day in Wyoming at Devil's Tower, this was the first view of the Bighorn mountains as we headed west towards Yellowstone.

image

We drove the southern route through the mountains from Buffalo to Ten Sleep, on highway 16 - appropriately called The Sweet 16.

It is a beautiful drive in the summertime, but in the winter when these snow fences are being put to use, I can't even imagine how deep the snow must get! But it looks seriously effective.

Looking West and about to leave the Bighorns.

I like photography @melinda010100, the mountain, the green of the tree color and the view of the clouds that are so bright, thanks for sharing, I will share your post ...

Thanks so much! I appreciate the resteem!

Beautiful. I love all the names of places out there. The term "Badlands" is just exciting :)

I agree! And when you are there you can easily see how and why most of those places got their names.

Posting yang sangat indah, sukses terus @melinda010100

the mountains are amazing. perfect photo shoot

Thank you!

Wauuu ,, this is perfect. I like landscape photos like this. seeing pictures like this, making me aware of the magnitude of the power of God to create the beauty of nature in this world.

It is a beautiful world, isn't it!

Great pictures! I have been to Black Hills and Devils Tower but we always went south into Colorado. I regret never having visited Yellowstone.

We were disappointed by how busy Yellowstone was when we were there last. Sometimes you had to practically stand in line to take a photo of a waterfall or a geyser. Many times there would be so many cars in the parking lot that we couldn't even find a place to park even after driving around two or three times through the lot and we left without seeing whatever it was we were there to see. It was good to get back out of the park and Into the wilderness again. But we did see a grizzly bear in the park! I have one blurry photo!

hi mother @melinda010100, your post is really good I am very impressed with you.

Thank you!

Now that is some serious snowfencing!! I can't even dream snow that deep!

I love how the first shot emphasizes those amazing clouds and shows off the layers of mountains. We live in such a beautiful world.

Thank you for sharing.

Upped and Steemed

Tip!

That fence is certainly enough to convince me that I never want to make that trip in the winter time.

It is a beautiful world.

Thanks for the tip and the Resteem!

Happy mountain monday 🌄 @melinda010100!
What a beautiful drive, I've never been to those
mountains, but close. They are so grand looking
in your wonderful photographs!
Sure a huge fence must be a lot of drifting snow blow!

You can't trick me, I know it's really Tuesday.😂 I'm just a little late. That is a cool mountain range I spent
a lot of time there back in the 70s and when I was there a couple years ago I was so amazed at how much things have changed there. Certainly better highways, and not nearly as many logging roads where you could get back in and access the remote areas. I'm glad I got to spend as much time there as I did years ago.

Ooh...I forgot MountainMonday..! Yours are so wonderful and wild my dear Melinda !
Why is the road named sweet 16 ..?

Our highways have numbers... And that one is Highway 16. When girls celebrate their 16th birthday the party is often referred to as a sweet 16 party. This road has been given the nickname sweet 16 and it is a sweet drive!

You may have noticed that my Mountain Monday post is on Tuesday. Keith told me that he is flexible like that. So I think you could do a mountain Monday post on Thursday if you wanted to!

Ooh now it would be almost a wednesday mountains as it is almost midnight here ^_^
I didn't know about the party at 16th that was named sweet 16...it's cool if this mountain road is a sweet drive, because very often are the mountain roads a bit difficult and sometimes bumpy... ;-)

Outstanding! I drove that route two summers ago and I loved the scenery! The road was a little scary in places. Great photos, thank you for joining mountain Monday! resteemed :)

Thanks for the Resteem! I was just thinking that the highway is so improved from when I used to spend time there in the 70s that now it just feels like a Sunday Drive! It used to be really crazy to drive through there.

Photographs of a beautiful summer trip ... Oh ... It feels great to be able to get around the high mountains especially when we can enjoy the natural beauty above the amazing highlands.

I hope your trip will always be fun and can share photos with us here.
🙂😀🙂

Thank you! I love being in the mountains!

They are very idyllic places. Excellent pictures. Greetings @melinda010100

Terrific shots of those mountains Melinda and we chose this photo below to enter into this week's collection of goldenhour photos on @steemimages hope it gets a lot more eyeballs on the post. :-)

howdy melinda010100! wow beautiful pictures, Devil's Tower sounds interesting, are you doing a post on that?

That's a pretty area. Great photos, too. What's that big wooden structure for? Is that to prevent avalanches from reaching the road?

It's snow fence to prevent drifting! A bit different than those wooden slat fences that they roll out and put along our roads, huh?

We get those plastic orange snow-net things sometimes in Minnesota. I miss the slats. They didn't even bother where I lived in SD. They probably just assume everyone has a snowmobile.

Hahaha! And did you? Have a snowmobile? I have never been a fan.

I've never been a fan of those either. At the time, the only vehicle I had was a little Saturn sedan. It was a great car, but not very good in a snowdrift.

I'm more of a silent sports type, and have always found snowmobiles to be obnoxious. I have driven a Jeep for years, I think I got my first one in 95. It made me sad to sell my last one a few years ago, but I am no longer driving. I have MS and my legs are not reliable enough to drive anymore. That was a sad day when I made that decision.

Ouch. This country is so vehicle-dependent. Life without driving isn't an easy thing, nor is MS for that matter. I hope they find a cure for some of these things soon!

I just got a Jeep about three months ago. After two weeks, the engine needed to be replaced, but it seems to be doing well now. It'll be great to have something with 4WD in this hilly Minnesota town when the snow starts flying. The RWD Ford Ranger wasn't very safe.

Actually, I'm a little worried I might not be driving much longer because of my eyesight. The Mayo Clinic is down to doing a full DNA sequencing to try and figure out what's going on, there.

I hate being dependent. I live out of town and there is no public transportation available. We used to be on the go continuously and did some marvelous road trips all around the country and then my guy died a year and a half ago from cancer. Since then I've pretty much spent the time here in my house. My daughter is available if I have to go out for an appointment, but she is busy and I always hate to impose for anything frivolous, so I sit here and spend time on Steem!

I certainly hope Mayo can find some answers for you. That must be very frightening

Wonderful photos, my dear Melinda! Loved the immensity of the landscape, and you captured really well! Big hug, sweetie!

I can imagine how beautiful this drive was.
The views are really stunning!

Thanks! It really is a beautiful part of the world!
