A few days ago I climbed Buckeye Peak, which according to Summit Post is currently 12,867 feet above sea level. I’m sure that number will change soon since global warming is causing the Earth to sink. But for now at least, it's 12,867 feet.
I started my hike from the Buckeye Gulch trailhead below Sangree’s Hut and went up 137 toward Buckeye Lake.
This picture looks back down the road as it approaches treeline:
And here's Buckeye Lake a bit higher:
From there I climbed up to high ground …
… and then wandered north in the direction of Chicago Ridge.
All in all, a good day for wandering.
Sangree's Hut is named for Staff Sgt. Sangree M. Froelicher, a member of the elite 10th Mountain Division during WWII. You can read his story here.
Some really beautiful scenery.
