What's Your Favorite Christmas Movie? Here's Mine! The Holiday!

Hello my lovely peoples!

So, one of my favorite Christmas movies is romantic comedy, The Holiday! Its such a good one in my opinion! One of my favorite things about it is the soundtrack and Christmasy feel! It stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law. The film is about two women, one in California, the other in London who had boy troubles lol, (which I never had).

Amanda (Cameron Diaz), is a successful movie trailer producer who suffers a break-up in a need of a vacation. She goes online and finds a house swap site and connects with Iris (Kate Winslet) who is in love with a man that just got engaged.

The arrangement is that they swap houses, cars, and everything else! (Which nowadays you wouldn't trust the person).
Amanda leaves her mansion for this beautiful cottage in this lovely countryside of London. I think the cottage is so cute. I would totally spend my vacation there!

Iris arrives in California and is surprised on how big it is. She explores the house and is in love with everything she sees. Meanwhile, Amanda is ready to leave after the first night because she is bored and lonely until she meets this guy.

Graham ( Jude Law) arrives at the front door expecting Iris. They start talking about things, they share a kiss, and she lets him stay because he is too drunk to drive. The next morning, he asks her to meet him later that night for drink but she tells him that she is leaving to go back because it was not what she expected. But then she changes her mind and surprises him when she is at the bar that night.

Iris meets Amanda's friend Miles, who is a music writer. Even though he has a girlfriend you can see a spark between them. They go out together as friends and he finds out that his girlfriend cheated on him. She calls him and wants to talk about getting back together but then he realizes that he is in love with Iris. So by the end of the movie, they all finally found happiness and spent New Years together!

I'd chose A Christmas Story.

It's set in Hohman, Indiana in the 1940's where a young boy named Ralphie attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

It's especially fun to find hidden local references to Hammond, Indiana - which is the actual town Hohman was based on. The author, Jean Parker Shepherd grew up in Hammond. Shepherd is the narrator in the movie and has a cameo appearance as a man waiting in the Santa line.

Raised in Hammond, Indiana, Jean Shepherd went on to work in the steel mills and was a veteran of the Army Signal Corps before entering the arts. In the 1950s, he began a long career as a radio personality telling stories of his youth, commenting on current topics and performing silly songs.
(snip)
His articles were published in a series of books including "The America of George Ade", "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash", "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories, and Other Disasters", "A Fistful of Fig Newtons" and "The Ferrari in the Bedroom".
(snip)
In 1983, he wrote his first feature film, A Christmas Story (1983), putting together many tales of his semi-autobiographical character "Ralphie". A sequel, "My Summer Story" (aka It Runs in the Family (1994)) was made in 1994.

The reason it's so fun, is that I've lived in and near Hammond for 30 years. Here's a fun fact I just discovered researching the author - he used his middle name as Ralphie's last name in the movie.

Don't worry about trying to find it on TV. They usually have a 24 hour marathon on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

LOVE a christmas story!

"You'll shoot your eye out!!!"

Another fun fact...

Flick in the movie was an actual person. His real name was Flickenger. His bar, Flick's, still bears his name. It's been there for decades.

NO way! that's pretty cool!
