Dune : Part 2.

We got busy and spent all day today doing things, and now that I'm sitting down for the first time not otherwise occupied, it occurs to me that I didn't share my thoughts about Dune II.

tl;dr: It was exceptional and you should go see it, assuming you've seen Part I.

Longer version:

This is one of the most expansive and epic sci-fi / fantasy films ever made. It has moments that feel like you're watching an older studio picture from the golden age, like Ben Hur. The visual and special effects are stunning. The cinematography by Greig Fraser is the kind of stunning I've come to expect from Villeneuve's films, and the storytelling is often told in more subtle ways than you usually get with modern cinema.

It's my understanding that Villeneuve is planning to make Dune: Messiah as his final Dune project, and if he can stick the landing on this trilogy -- which, frankly, may not have a very satisfying ending no matter what -- then this might be one of those Lord of the Rings-esque projects that some people will end up making an event out of watching year after year.

Either way, if you're interested in this kind of thing, do not miss your opportunity to see it on the biggest format screen possible.
