The Greatest Showman: A Review

I've always loved watching musicals. So when a friend recommeded The Greatest Showman, I decided to watch it immediately. P.T. Barnum, a true person in history and a great showman and business man, was perforemed by Hugh Jackman, one of my favorite actors. Before this, Jackman starred as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, a musical movie I watched several times.

In my opinion, The Greatest Showman isn't as good as Les Misérables, which is adapted from Boradway musical, but it is entertaining enough. The very first song in the movie is beautiful, and brings me back to the time when P.T. Barnum started everything from strach. As the music plays on and with the songs being sung, the life-story of this great showman is revealed. It's true that he struggled his way from rags to riches, but the stories are somewhat plain. Even when he fails, we know he will pick himself up again. It's true that he has his ups and downs, but overall I am left with an impression that he succeeded way too easily.

Some scenes in the movie reminds me of the popular drama American Horrow Story: Freak Show. The actors and actresses in Mr. Barnum's circus were dubbed as freaks by protesters. Overall, he first half of the movie is better than the second and apart from the first song, the others do not impress me much.

In a nutshell, The Greatest Showman is entertaning enough and a good one to enjoy in the theatre, but it isn't as classic as Les Misérables. If you havn't watched it, I recommed that you do. It won't dissapoint you.

《马戏之王》观后

因为朋友推荐，加上喜欢音乐电影，所以周末两个小时给了休·杰克曼主演的《马戏之王》。

休·杰克曼最有名的角色大概是金刚狼，但我更熟悉他在《悲惨世界》中的表演。《悲惨世界》电影看了4-5遍，百老汇音乐剧看（听）了不下20遍。

因此看《马戏之王》之前，我的期望就十分高。说实话，它并没有让我太失望。娱乐性足够强，音乐动听，能让我一直看下去。开场第一首歌特别惊艳，顺带把马戏之王的背景都交代了。电影前半部分比较紧凑。组建马戏团的部分让人想起《美国恐怖故事：畸形秀》，毕竟里面的演员多少有些相似，而且也是马戏团的事情。但后半部分总觉得欠缺些什么。或许这类励志电影总遵循某种套路，有些情节总是能被预测到。

男二是《歌舞青春》男主Zac Efron饰演的。开始觉得他眼熟，但一直没认出来，看完电影查资料才知道。Efron之前也比较熟悉，《歌舞青春》三部都看过，里面的歌曲听了一遍又一遍。Efron变化挺大，主要是发型，还有就是胡须，而且剧中明显是个中青年，不如当初的青春年少。他和马戏团女演员的感情戏总觉得有点鸡肋。另外，男主的妻子演得非常好。

尽管《马戏之王》无法与经典歌舞电影相提并论，它还是非常值得一看的。如果喜欢音乐电影的话，就更不能错过了。最后，我打8分，与豆瓣的7.9分差不多。
