Hi movie lovers.

As my promise in the previous article, I will help you recount this film. Pacific Rim is a battle film between robot vs. monster directed by renowned producer Guillermo del Torro who has also been successful with other great films such as Blade, Hell Boy and a new favorite in academy awards a few months ago, The Shape of water.

The story continues from Pacific Rim's whose genre is Scifi. Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), the hero who sacrificed himself in a big explosion in order to close the gap of the Kaiju‘s entrance to Earth, was caught for stealing Jaeger’s spare parts for sale. While performing this action he meets Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny), a little girl who has the natural ability to assemble and control a mini robot named Scrapper. This lively robot bodied like a frog Gamaken in the Naruto series, but it’s able to roll like a scaly anteater.

After being arrested, they were forced to become involved in Jaeger's pilot training program in China. There, Jake was reunited with Lambert (Scott Eastwood), his comrades. From here, we can see the emotional conflict between the two until the appearance of Kaiju. This problem is also known coming from the scientist Dr. Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman), who is addicted to the thought of the monster’s rest of brain from the previous battle. The Precursor (creator of the Kaiju) through the monster's brain imparts his influence so that Dr. Gottlieb manipulates Shao Production's Robots using the Kaiju’s brain as a pilot.

Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) as a partner was unable to prevent the evil plans of Dr. Gottlieb. Until their base was attacked and leaving only a few pilots and Jaeger to fight back. With Amara Namani's help, they recondition Jaeger's damaged state.

In the end, they are aware that all the time kaiju have been targeting the rare elements that exist in Fuji Mountain, Japan. Limited time to keep the monsters out there made them think hard for solutions. This is where Dr. Newton took on the role, he immediately realized his plan to add rocket facilities in Jaeger's body as long-distance transport disposable.

The film is closed just as our prediction. The battle scenes between Robot vs. Monsters dominate the story. Until I began to confuse to guess "Is it that easy they evacuate all citizens of Tokyo?".

This light story certainly brings a bit of disappointment to the adult audience. Information about the kaiju category seems to be ignored. In fact, it could be a lot of audiences who await data comparison of monsters that appears in this movie with in the previous movie.

The selection of actors is also considered less courageous. Would not it be more fun if the lead role was Michael.B Jordan? Without ignoring John Boyega as one of the producers of course.

For the rating, I personally gived 7.5/10. Suitable for all circles because no adult scenes are shown there.

As an Indonesian, I personally still mesmerize the technology in making this film Scifi. I'm not sure what year the Indonesian film will make a similar movie. Hopefully the time will come. Because, Indonesia is still a profitable film industry market.

Sesuai janji saya di tulisan sebelumnya, saya akan membantu kalian menceritakan kembali tentang film ini. Pacific Rim merupakan film pertarungan antara robot vs monster arahan produser terkenal Guillermo del Torro yang juga telah sukses dengan film hebat lainnya seperti Blade, Hell Boy, bahkan yang baru menjadi favorit di academy awards beberapa bulan yang lalu, The Shape of water.

Cerita berlanjut dari Pacific Rim yang bergenre Scifi. Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), putra dari Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), pahlawan yang mengorbankan dirinya dalam ledakan besar demi menutup celah pintu masuk para Kaiju ke Bumi, tertangkap karena mencuri onderdil Jaeger untuk dijual. Saat menjalankan aksinya inilah dia bertemu dengan Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny), seorang gadis kecil yang memiliki kemampuan alami dalam merakit dan mengendalikan sebuah mini robot bernama Scrapper. Robot lincah ini bertubuh seperti katak Gamaken dalam serial Naruto, Namun mampu bergelinding layaknya tringgiling.

Setelah ditangkap, mereka terpaksa terlibat dalam program pelatihan pilot Jaeger di China. Di sana, jake dipertemukan kembali dengan Lambert (Scott Eastwood), rekan seperjuangannya. Dari sini, kita bisa melihat adanya konflik emosi antara keduanya hingga munculnya Kaiju. Permasalahan ini pun diketahui berasal dari ilmuwan Dr Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman), yang ketagihan melakukan hubungan pikiran dengan otak monster dari sisa pertempuran sebelumnya. Precursor (pencipta kaiju) melalui otak monster tersebut menanamkan pengaruhnya agar Dr Gottlieb memanipulasi Robot-robot buatan Shao Production menggunakan otak Kaiju sebagai pilot.

Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) sebagai partner tidak mampu mencegah rencana jahat dari Dr Gottlieb Hingga markas mereka diserang dan hanya menyisakan beberapa pilot dan Jaeger untuk melawan balik. Dengan bantuan Amara Namani, mereka merekondisi Jaeger yang rusak.

Pada akhirnya, mereka sadar bahwa selama ini para kaiju mengincar elemen langka yang ada di Gunung fuji, Jepang. Terbatasnya waktu untuk mencegah para monster ke sana membuat mereka memeras otak untuk mendapatkan solusi. Di sinilah Dr. Newton mengambil peran, dia segera merealisasikan rencananya untuk menambah fasilitas roket di tubuh Jaeger sebagai tranportasi jarak jauh sekali pakai.

Film ini ditutup sesuai dengan dugaan. Adegan pertarungan antara Robot vs monster mendominasi cerita. Hingga saya mulai kebingungan untuk menebak “semudah itukan mereka mengevakuasi semua warga Tokyo?”.

Cerita ringan ini tentu saja mendatangkan sedikit kekecewaan bagi penonton dewasa. Informasi tentang kategori para kaiju terkesan diabaikan. Padahal, bisa saja banyak penonton yang menanti data perbandingan monster yang muncul di film ini dengan di film sebelumnya.

Pemilihan para aktor juga dianggap kurang berani. Bukankah lebih seru bila yang memainkan peran utama ini adalah Michael .B Jordan? Tanpa mengenyampingkan John Boyega sebagai salah satu produser tentunya.

Untuk rating, saya pribadi memberi nilai 7,5/10. Cocok untuk semua kalangan karena tidak ada adegan dewasa yang dipertontonkan di sana.

Sebagai orang Indonesia, saya pribadi tetap mengakui teknologi dalam pembuatan film Scifi ini. Saya tidak yakin tahun berapa film Indonesia akan mampu membuat film sejenis. Semoga saja waktu itu akan tiba. Karena, Indonesia masih termasuk pasar industri perfilman yang menguntungkan.
