The third chapter
The third chapter of the series, and just as good as the first two which can be a rarity in a trilogy. I suspect that since they were all shot in the one hit, with the same cast and director that this all contributed to making it a top film.
As you would expect with any big, big budget Hollywood film the special effects are very special, and there were a lot of them. From increasing the numbers of people in a shot to changing the scenery and more. These all mean that if you want to experience the full effect, a reasonable sized screen is a must. Assuming you didn't see it in the cinemas when it was released.
New Zealand with it's mountains, and green lands, does help to set (reinforce) the image of middle earth I had in my mind from reading the books. The film does stay in line with the books quite well, so if you have read the books but not seen the film because of concerns that the movie won't be as good. You should see the movies, granted some things were cut, but not enough to upset most people.
Basically if you haven't seen the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, you really should. It should be on a big enough screen with decent sound, as the sound does play a big part. Note: These films aren't for small children, they were given a pg-13 rating for a reason.
I love all the LOTR @jeff001 and you bring up a really good point no doubt being the same people continuing the work made it successful and yes watching all 6 movies is definitely a MUST!
