A degree in Silliness
It was long past due to do a review involving Monty Python, no particular reason for choosing this one. I could have quite easily gone with the "Life of Brian". The Holy Grail I believe was more of a commercial success, so here is it's review. If you haven't seen anything from Monty Python then I will say this, nothing is serious, or off limits.
Here we have King Arthur and his faithful squire Patsy searching for brave Knights to join them. He manages to recruit Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot, along with their squires.
After he has recruited his Knights for the round table they head off to Camelot, but it is decided that this is a "silly place". So time for a U-turn, at this moment God speaks, telling Arthur to find the Holy Grail. So off they go looking for the Holy Grail.
Part way through the search and without making a lot of headway, Arthur decides that they should all go their separate ways. One of the Knights comes across a modern day film crew making a documentary about King Arthur, the historian is killed, and now modern day police are investigating the crime.
Another Knight is faced with fighting a Three-Headed Giant, but avoids this by running away when the heads start arguing with each other. Sir Galahad is drawn into a castle populated solely by woman after following a grail shaped beacon. The women insist that they must all be punished for this, Sir Galahad is rescued from dealing out any punishment by Sir Lancelot, lucky Sir Galahad.
There are many other silly situations and adventures that the knights encounter, each one just a silly as the one before. Monty Python is best viewed as taking the Mickey out of everything, and don't worry about a story line, just enjoy the slapstick type comedy and have a laugh.
