Spoiler Alert: The following article contain specific details that might spoils your movie experience. Proceed at your own discretion.

I stumble upon this trailer in my Facebook feed. It grab my attention immediately. It does take a few moment before everything settle down: A modern fantasy movie, with Will Smith running around with an Orc and Elf, getting into trouble with a magic wand? I AM SUPER STOKED.

What else could go wrong?

Damn. But hey, to be fair that Suicide Squad is not entirely David Ayer's faults, since it's Warner Bros' call for a reshoot. At least we'll have Will Smith again, right? And it's Netflix, right?

Damn, it all went wrong. The best I could say it's that, the concept of "Bright" is a fresh idea, just some really bad execution, especially due to this guy. Writer/Producer: Max Landis (Image Credit: Collider.com

Lot's of Nitpicking

I normally don't nitpick a movie a part, since problems like continuity error, exposition, too little explanation etc, will almost always being covered by the good part of the movie, but boy this move rack these problems up really fast and eventually make a huge mess.

There a scene where Will Smith and Jakoby pick up a seemingly crazy hobo with a huge ass sword, that have long enough screen time to make me to think it's important, and it turn out it's not. This hobo is solely there to provide exposition about Will Smith, Jakoby, the magic wand, the villain and more, but half of those exposition is left hanging in the air while the other half is purposely left forgotten till it's important again.

The magic wand, a powerful tool/weapon that could grant wish and shoots lightning bolt. In a movie about Orcs and Elfs, should be the integral part of this movie right? NOT EVEN CLOSE. The only thing we certain about these wands, yes wands, the hobo mentioned that there is 3 of them, that this wands are need to resurrect a badass Dark Lord, and that's all we know about the wand. Everything else is just speculations.

Then there is Bright, those individuals that are "chosen", I guess, to be able to uses the wands. This rule is somehow forgotten by every single bad guys in the movie, that they pursue the wand at all cost. Just FYI, anybody that it's not a Bright, came into contact with wand will be instantaneously vaporized.

The movie then proceed to spend around half of the time revolve around the rat race between Will Smith, Jakoby and everybody else. There is no explanation why they need a wand that they can't use. Will Smith and Jakoby changes clothes, change position a few times, yet the bad guys have no problem locating them VERY ACCURATELY. GPS equipped wand I guess? Else why everybody have no problem finding Will Smith? EXPLAIN YOURSELF MOVIE!!!!

Not to mention there is another half a dozens continuity error moments, such as Jakoby's effort saving an Orc kid, which turn out it's the mob boss's son, then Jakoby is still killed by the mob boss (Spoiler: Jakoby didn't stay dead for long). WTF?

The Ork's Situation

The movie depicted that every single human in the move hate the Orks, I repeat, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. There is a scene where a locker room full of policemen having some heated arguments with Will Smith, because he is having an Ork partner(Jakoby), that he is not actively getting rid of his partner. Seriously?

Then there is another one after the briefing session, where EVERY SINGLE POLICE laughing at Jakoby, because a classic prank like this.

Even Jakoby mentioned that, it's the Ork to be the bad guy. Such depiction is very extreme that making me unable to understand how they even able to live in the same city. Then there is the Elf. The movie told us that some two thousands years ago, an Elf self proclaimed as Dark Lord and tried to conquer the world. It was hinted that the Orks joined him, thus earning the hatred. However, the Elf is currently living in a even higher social class than the humans. Why aren't they being condemned, just like the Orcs? You know what? Whatever! It's a movie about a angry human with a idiot Orc, saving the life of a Elf from another Elf, with lots of running, shooting, ninja-ing and magic-ing. Logic need not apply.

What's The Point?

None, but seriously it's so bad you really should watch it, then you probably like the movie a lot, just like me.
