Sinisterly Terrifying
What an absolute crazy story, and the most insane part is that it actually happened not too long ago.
I recall hearing about this when I was still young, the Chernobyl disaster happened on 26 April 1986, and for the most part was kept very much hush hush by the Soviet Union. Basically what happened was the No. 4 nuclear reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant suffered a reactor core meltdown due to design flaws and breach of protocol during simulated power outage safety test. This was one of the two worst nuclear disasters in history, the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
This new five part mini series on HBO takes a closer look at what exactly happened, and how the socialist, communist Soviet government tried to cover it all up. The show paints a very grim picture of the effects of what nuclear radiation looks like and what the long term effects eventually were. I would definitely recommend you give this a watch, there were two things that really struck me. This first was the official deaths as recorded by the Soviet government that too this day remain unchanged. The other was just exactly how horrible a socialist or communist society actually is, this show gives a real life refection of the horrors of these ideologies.
"On April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union suffered a massive explosion that released radioactive material across Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and as far as Scandinavia and western Europe. Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 accident, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from the unimaginable disaster." - HBO
"What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all. What can we do then? What else is left to abandon even the hope of truth and content ourselves instead with stories? In these stories, it doesn't matter who the heroes are. All we want to know is: "Who is to blame?" - Valery Legasov
Chernobyl gets a rating of 7.5/10

Gosh now that GOT was done I was looking for something to watch and happened to come across this gem and had to wait each week like a peasant for the next episode but it was well worth it. If only all series could show up and be about quantity and not filling a season with shit lol
I really enjoyed it and it got me mad hooked on documentaries about nuclear reactors and other disasters

Nice write up.
Great series, the atmosphere it was able to create within each episode was amazing. I agree @morkrock there is something terrifying about it being based on true events. I was engaged all the way to the end, highly recommended to anyone who hasn't watched it yet.
