I'm Sorry Dave, I'm Afraid I Can't Do That
It seems like A.I. is of a pressing concern these days, I have actually had some really interesting conversations with people regarding the topic.
I thought this looks like a pretty cool movie, which takes a look at the negative side to artificial intelligence, well that's what I can assume from the direction of this trailer. It could be that it goes in a complete different direction later on, but I highly doubt this.
To some degree this film resonated with me, and only in the sense that the topic has been so thoroghly covered over the years. The idea behind A.I. especially in pop culture since I can remember, has been that it will always end up being very bad for the human race, and there is definitely a philosophical argument to support that. You could argue it has to do with the soul of man or that the logical conclusion true A.I. would come to is pretty much what Agent Smith tells Morpheus in the Matrix, that humans are a plague and probably need to be wiped out.
Tau has very much the same feel to me as Space Odyssey 2001 with the premise of a toned down Hostel, focusing more on the psychological. Luckily we don't have to wait too long, as this will be release in about two days on Netflix, this Friday, so give it a watch and let me know what you guys thought.
"Once a street-smart grifter, Julia (Maika Monroe) is the latest young woman held captive, a body and a mind to be exploited in a fatal experiment. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is TAU, the advanced artificial intelligence developed in secret by Alex (Ed Skrein), her masochistic and enigmatic captor. TAU is armed with a battalion of drones and robots that automate Alex's futuristic smart house and laboratory, the walls lined with screens that visually transport it from grassy plains to the depths of space. TAU's potential is only limited by his understanding of the world he exists in, but TAU is ready for more. Julia, showing resourcefulness and courage, must race against time to bridge the boundaries between man and machine, connect to TAU and win her freedom before she suffers the same fate as the six other subjects who came before her." - Netflix
"The more wonderful the means of communication, the more trivial, tawdry, or depressing its contents seemed to be." - Arthur C. Clarke
Tau gets rating of 5/10
This could go either way, still feels like a made for TV movie.

Great!! Just what I need. Another Netflix Original that Is in my mist watch list. I continue to be blown away with the quality of the content Netflix put out. It’s no wonder I cancelled my regular cable long ago. As for the AI world. People are always fascinated with he future. There are those in the 70’s that thought we would be relying X-Wing fighters , hanging with Wookiee and brandishing light sabers by the 2000’s.
