The MonsterVerse - Godzilla, King Kong and what we may expect from the Future of the Monsters #1

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is still running in the cinemas and as a big monster fan I want to talk a bit about the movie. But most of all about what the end and the post-credit scenes tell us about the upcoming movies.

This and the next article will contain spoilers. You are hereby warned.

The credits of Godzilla 2 give us two interesting infos in the credits. In a fade-in we learn that the secret organization Monarch is finally releasing their knowledge about the Titans. It's about time, after so many monsters have been slaughtering everything in public. We also learn that a mysterious egg has been found, which gives us hope that Mothra will return(?).

It is also known that there have been seismic activities on Skull Island that seem to attract the Titans, as they are all heading there now. One last picture shows us a cave painting in which we see Godzilla fighting Kong. The Post-Credit-Scene shows us the ecoterrorist Alan Jonah played by Charles Dance. He is about to get the severed head of King Ghidorah.

These two credits are loaded with informations, some of which point directly to Godzilla vs. Kong appearing in 2020, while others leave open the suspicion that this is already the basis for more Godzilla movies. In Godzilla v Kong 2020, directed by Adam Wingard, the King of Monsters will compete against the King of Apes.

The fact that in the first credits scene, the monsters move towards Skull Island makes it clear that this fight is imminent. At the end of Godzilla 2, Godzilla was accepted as the king by the other monsters, but Kong could challenge his reputation. After all, we were promised that the new 2020 Kong would be much bigger and more mature than the one of 2017. This would also guarantee a fair fight.

The cave painting from the movie also proves that this fight has probably been done several times before. Even in the Japanese Godzilla film series the two cult monsters were allowed to compete in King Kong vs. Godzilla in 1962. However, we can be sure that 2020 will look a lot cooler than in the earlier old movies. At the same time we know about the upcoming movie that Monarch will try to reveal the origin of the Titans and intervene in the battle of the monsters.

Could Alan Jonah's King Ghidorah head also play a role here? To be honest, that might be a bit too much, at least in Godzilla vs. Kong the two monsters should be in the foreground. That's why I think that the post-credit scenes have given us a much wider perspective on Godzilla's future.

Great write up and as a fan of the originals of both series it will be interesting to see the next movie. I feel like Kong will get the upper hand since he has emotions. Just my view. Thanks for sharing!!

@oendertuerk One similarity between all these gigantic monsters - they're all Titans and hard to be destroyed by human being!

The human being always ends up winning friend @oendertuerk, because situations as extraordinary as those awaken the inner giant that human beings carry inside...

Good write up @oendertuerk

After watching both I'm struggling to see how Kong can square up to Godzilla. In skull island, he was big...but not Godzilla big. I think they will try to explain this away by saying that he has had 40+ years to get bigger.

However, Kong's parents were killed by the Skullcralers which Kong the proceeded to kill, this suggests that the majority of Kongs growing is done in the film.... or that his parents were weak?
It's going to be interesting to see how they make this matchup a competitive fight, remember Kong is KING but Godzilla is a GOD.

Совсем распустились, надо же следить за домашними питомцами. Бегаю шумят по городу😁
