I finally watched Seven Years in Tibet. I remember wanting to see it back in the day; but, I was a kid in 1997 and it's not a kid's movie.
It's really, sadly, a beautiful looking but meh film. Brad Pitt's Austrian accent wasn't believable; but, to his credit, that's a tough accent for Americans to imitate -- I've tried it.
I don't appreciate the rose-colored glasses through which Tibetan society was portrayed. It was actually pretty brutal and grossly unequal. In a lot of ways, Seven Years in Tibet could be seen as a movie about Gareth Jones getting wined and dined in the Soviet Union and leaving out the Ukrainian genocide.
I do appreciate that there was a time when Hollywood didn't feel compelled to suck Communist China's dick, though.
