"Do The Right Thing" by Spike Lee is a film about a struggling writer trying to make it in New York City. He gets some more money and moves from Brooklyn to Brooklyn Heights, a less expensive and well-known place to live.
As the film goes on, the protagonist realizes that he is not the best writer he can be. His stories are boring and the protagonist is so boring that he is not interested in writing anymore. Soon he realizes that he does not deserve his writers' union salary and that he is being cheated.
Do The Right Thing is like a comedy of manners, because it clearly depicts how hard life can be for a creative writer. A huge chunk of the movie is dedicated to how easy it is to get rich and stay rich for a long time but the writer should be able to live a normal life like everybody else.
This movie portrays a modern social issue that a lot of people suffer from, namely how nice persons end up being when they have no real talent. It does not show that these people had really been selfish and self-centered. They just did not know that there were people who need and deserve the same benefits that they have.
A big part of the movie is about the difficulty of being a creative writer. It also shows that there are other aspects of life that can get you rich faster than writers are. However, since the movie is an example of a how a good life looks like, the movie might just be realistic.
Do The Right Thing was nominated for two Academy Awards. Out of those two nominations, "City Slickers" won. The movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won three of them.
Do The Right Thing is a very entertaining movie that tells the story of a writer who tries to cope with his life after being cheated out of his writers' union salary. I think that this movie would work better as a film directed by David O. Russell, instead of by Spike Lee. Spike Lee could be seen as trying to make a sequel, rather than a proper movie.
In "Training Day", Darren Rovell plays the role of a writer who gets a pay raise at the last minute. You can see why the actor would want to make a sequel. The movie is not just a rehash of the whole "Do The Right Thing" premise, but it actually showed the characters growing and changing over the course of the story.
