The literal meaning for inception is an event that is a beginning or the first stage of subsequent events. This film is just like a complex maze or an intricately woven fabric. The nature of this film is artistic and intricate instead of a descriptive, decisive or a conclusive one, in which the story paces gradually and keeps evolving.

Dream as a plot

Basically Cobb is a highly imaginative person as he thrills by the idea of navigating people’s minds and stealing them. He have always dreamt of building great things; building cathedrals, creating objects, destroying and then recreating. And this passion of creating actually takes you to the ultimate edge of reality and possibilities. So, in most simple words, dream has been used as a tool of achieving that edge; that last limit of our imagination, creative skills and our higher selves.

Through the complex sequence of events, Nolan has tried to demonstrate the dynamics of dream and it's correlation with reality. Cobb is a mind navigator who can infiltrate in other's minds through dreams and scan or steal their secrets and ideas. But now, he is given the challenge to plant an idea in someone's mind which is near to impossible at the first thought because of the fact that our mind is fully aware of the origin of ideas either they are local or foreign.

First of all, the question arises as to how such visual and high-dimensional dreams and objects could be created in our sleep? Or how the dreams of others can be even infiltrated? Cobb teaches his recruited Ariadne, the architect that in our conscious, we create and perceive reality separately or in pieces, whereas, in dreams, our mind is working both ways, creates and perceives simultaneously and between the two is a line or layer which can be exploited to infiltrate the minds and work out the ideas in that layer. And then the question of how one can create all the smallest and biggest objects in someone else’s dreams that feel so real that each and every detail from skyscrapers to the tiniest details of the human features, or the feeling of wind by your face, the sunshine, the haze can be felt to perfection and rhythm, arises. One wonders about the parameters that decide the content and the way our mind can exactly create such a particular and detailed setting in our dreams, when actually, we are sleeping. According to Cobb, these are the projections and to cause any alterations in the setting, you are supposed to converge your projections.

Dreams and Time

The understanding of time in dream and relative requires relative study as we feel that we have spent an hour in the dream which is just five minutes of the real time. That is the mystery that even the movie itself could not seem to resolve.
