It is time for a horror movie to keep you up at night. This time is Insidious 4th sequel, Insidious : The Last Key. Horror movie is best to watch at night time with extra sweater to cover your eyes a bit whenever it gets to the scary-open-the-door-scene (you know when it comes to that). Continue on to read my review of this movie.

Kids STILL makes a good horror movie
I keep saying this when I reviewed Anabelle and IT movie last time and is still the case now. Kids can make the best horror movie. The first part of the movie tells the story of the earlier life of Elise and her family, where she grew up and the gift that she had that put her to troubles with her family. Played as young Elise is Ava Kolker , a stalked on her IMDB page said :
Ava Kolker has been acting one way or another from the time she could walk and talk.

This just sums it all on her acting in this movie.
NAH! AVA KOLKER COMING! COVER YOUR EYES!
Confusing prequels, sequels, and flashbacks
If you have been following Insidious franchise, you would know that it is not easy to catch up with the overall story and can be confusing— unless you keep a note about it which most of us didn't do. This is my review of the overall franchise, not directed to this sequel alone. So, this 4th movie release is actually no 2. in the pecking order.
It’s a sequel to “Insidious: Chapter 3,” but a prequel to the original “Insidious.”

I will put it in a picture where it is fit in the timeline:

Horror film finding its humor side
Source
The character of Tucker and Specs shed a bit of light humor to this intense drama. For me, both of the characters really helps in terms of much needing time to tone down intense action in the movie. The flirting antics of these two is quite an amusement to the audience.
Less scarier than before
Watching Insidious: The Last Key can be excited to some to experience the horror effect in the cinema. However, expectations are high and this movie put most of its burden on 74-year old Lin Shaye to single-handedly provide terrifying moments to the audience. In addition, a ghost with a key somehow seems a lazy idea for me.
Does Elise have a niece that can carry her task in helping people?
Source Socialnews
Imogen Rainier played by Caitlin Gerard is a niece of Elise Rainer that has a psychic ability like her aunt. I wonder where this character is going with Insidious not making any sign to stop production.
Overall, I think that the world is still shaken by the first Insidious in 2010 directed by James Wan itself. Horror movies is taking the world by storm and we have high expectations on what movie can scares us at night.
Thanks for reading
Jen

Interesting review! I am a fan of that type of film, especially the Insidious movies. You're right the 1st one was the most impressing, but again, this happens in most films that have several parts. I enjoyed your chronology of films too, it clears things up. I'm also looking forward to seeing the new Amityville soon (not seen yet, gonna see it in streaming). The Ring was also good in its own style. If you want to see, I have only made 1 review so far, as I only joined Steemit last month. https://steemit.com/movie/@loonyfool/movie-review-number-1-flatliners-2017-http-www-imdb-com-title-tt2039338

Of course ! I saw that you created it so I will definitely have to hype it. Let's do it together. I write about many types of subjects, from science to music creation, movie reviews, sports, and language learning, programming languages, alternate news. But as you say, let's hype that tag ; I will think about it when I write my 2nd movie review. I have a full list of movies I wanna review. Equilibrium, The Ring, Amityville are among them. My type of movie is either horror (but freaking you out, not the "blood-movies" like scream, that actually doesn't frighten me that much, it's just disgusting, so horror where there are ghosts, spirits, things like that); and science fiction movies, or movies that try to depict a new kind of era, like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216216/ (the 6th day) ; I'm eager to make a review of this one, explaining my personal view on cloning. I enjoy making reviews mostly in order to criticize the standard "Hollywood-mentality" which always wants to make new things look like "bad, dangerous"; and they really didn't give cloning an interesting image in that movie, only presenting its drawbacks, and as I don't really like their kind of "morals", I'm really eager to do it. Apart from that, "6th day" wasn't such a bad film, but I like focusing on the morals of it too, for me, a good film has both a good scenario and is open-minded in the way that it allows you to have your own opinion, not imposing you its own view at the end, like "cloning is bad, dangerous for humanity 100%", but I will develop my point in my review. I'm just enthusiast about making reviews just as you are :D

Thanks, I am passionate about a lot of different kinds of subjects as you will see, sports, movies, music creation, alternate news, technology, language learning, programming, science, well then you can assume I find it easy to occupy my time :D a bit overoccupied; I'm an addictive type of person, meaning once I'm into doing something, I usually need to go all the way, I need to go to the full root of things and develop them till they no longer can be, when I dedicate myself to something ; so my only worry is always to try channeling my energy, not burn it too fast :D

I haven't watched this yet, I'm still trying to get through all of the December movies that I haven't seen yet 😑
The timeline you posted is really helpful because I'll admit, I only saw the first Insidious movie lol...do you think I need to see the second and third to understand the fourth?

Thanks! You can watch it all and skip Insidious : Last Key . That will be sufficient enough. This sequel seems to be forced to fit in...
