I didn't see this movie till a few years after it came out, around that time my family moved back to my mother's parents area. My mother could be easily influenced by those around her and my aunt convinced her it wasn't a movie I could watch.
Why? Because the lead character was a prostitute.
Forget that it was a comedy by Garry Marshel.
Forget that it was made by Disney.
God forbid it's a movie about a prostitute.
Fast forward a few years, and go into the idea that my mother avoids movies on the weirdest things until you actually get her to watch them.
Which is what happened with this one. I got ahold of a DVD, she watched it... and it litterally became her favourite movie for nearly twenty years. In fact, anything with Julia Roberts and Richard gere.
Flip that... my dad took me at 6 to see mad max beyond thunder dome, dangerous liaisons at 10 and apocalypse now re-release at 11.
He also put me at the end of a firing range so I could point out the shots to the guys firing at targets over my head.
Pretty Woman was on tonight so I decided to watch it... and it holds up.
The funny moments are still funny, the romantic parts still hit you and you still feel bad for Richard Gere and the stick up his butt.
I recommend just checking it out again when you have the time.
