As a matter of simple numbers, I have to have people on my socials who either saw Oppenheimer or have tickets to see Oppenheimer on 15/70, who didn't see Dunkirk six years ago.
The only way that I can understand this is if people tell me why they skipped Dunkirk and not Oppenheimer.
I mean, Dunkirk struck me as a much more mainstream movie. It's much shorter. It's almost all action. It's PG-13. I've already interacted with a dozen Uber drivers who didn't know that Oppenheimer was a real person.
I do think that Oppenheimer is a better movie than Dunkirk; but, that doesn't fully explain how Dunkirk didn't get an extension, while Oppenheimer is selling out at 3am and has been extended for nearly three weeks.
