wth? look, i get it, i understand the issue of domestic help is a big issue around the world and an interesting social topic. i like artsy movies, but this one is just stale. reminds me of a 1960s european realism movie that just doesn't go anywhere. half the movie is watching her walk around the house doing daily chores. i've been to latin america many times, so those daily rhythms are familiar to me. i'm fine with slow, reflective movies, pensive movies... but there is not much to think about here. for 135 minutes, there is very little story. and the tie in that it touches on political themes of mexico in 1970s, hardly, about two extended scenes. didn't really find any depth of subtext or symbolism or other element that pulls one in. the story has a melodramatic emotional hook, but a run of the mill one, one that could be laid out in far less time. yes, it was shot in sepia tones, big deal. just not feeling this movie. I had to fast forward every few minutes just to get through the slog. for a recent mexican movie i much prefer the more modernistic take of "Time Share".
