I have just watched the third episode of this new anthology series and my disappointment is growing. The first one was an excellent story, beautifully told with nice twists and acting. The second one was a real disaster with a well-known fantasy situation and no new interesting stuff to make it worth watching. With the third episode, I was hoping something of similar quality than the first one, but sadly it is right in the middle. Not a disaster like the second one, but now great like the first one.
This time we have a kid who is a loner at school, he is having a hard time finding friends and being popular and this is all very frustrating for him. His grandpa is moving to his home because he is getting old now. One day, the grandpa receives an unexpected mail, an item he requested when he was a kid who loved to read comics, much like his grandson in today's time. This item will prove that fantastic things do not just belong in fiction but in real life as well.
The story seems to be written for younger audiences, it is very simple and the end is very silly as well. I am getting worried this series is turning out to be quite the mediocre show, far from what I was expecting. If you wonder what it is that I was expecting from this show, well I was hoping for a modern version of that classic Twilight Zone, which received a recent remake but with bad quality, I thought Amazing Stories could provide a better alternative. Also, I was hoping for a good anthology with stories as intriguing as Black Mirror, while also being less about sci-fi and more about fantasy.
A lot of the actors were very clumsy at times, the kid especially although I don't blame him because he is very young. His father and grandpa were also clumsy at times. The performances and some dialogues weren't fluid enough for my tastes.
I believe there is also an important plothole because the show didn't provide any explanation regarding why the grandpa left the item when going out at the end of the movie. He could have taken it just in case. There is also a dose of extremely bad luck in the ending that seemed very dramatic and rushed. The final shot was absolutely silly in my opinion. I am doubting if I should continue watching this show...
If you have kids and ant to show them a story with a touch of fantasy then this episode is a good choice. This is not for adults like the first episode, most will get bored by it. I was told the original Amazing Stories had some scary episodes, I am hoping they release a good one soon in this modern remake.
The best
- Good story for kids I guess.
The worst
- Clumsy performances.
- Silly scenes and simpleton writing.

I had planned to start watching this series, but I've only read bad reviews about it. I have my doubts.

Episodes 1 and 4 are good. 2 and 3 are very bad. It is an anthology so you can begin with any episodes because they aren't related.
