The people suffer, in a desperate plight,
Their only escape, a life of crime and fight.
A documentary, a window to the soul,
Cartel Land, a film, that makes us whole,
It shows the struggles, of those who take a stand,
Against the cartels, with guns in hand.
Mireles, a leader, charismatic and bold,
His story woven, in a narrative to be told,
A physician turned warrior, with a heart of gold,
His militia fights, against the cartel's hold.
But amidst the chaos, a question arises,
Can they survive, the lure of corruption's compromises?
The risk of moral decay, a constant, nagging fear,
As some members falter, and the cartel's influence draws near.
The film's dark message, a grim picture to paint,
The War on Drugs, a futile fight, a losing constraint,
The US and Mexico, both failing to contain,
The flow of drugs, the violence, the endless pain.
A contrast is drawn, between two worlds apart,
The US, a land of relative peace, a safer heart,
Foley's men, a vigilante group, with a easier test,
Their struggles, a pale comparison, to the Mexican unrest.
The film's flaws, a dubious choice, to depict both sides,
A disjointed narrative, that sometimes divides,
But still, it challenges, our thoughts and our views,
On the War on Drugs, organized crime, and vigilantism's muse.
Cartel Land, a thought-provoking film, that lingers on,
A reminder of the complexities, the struggles, the lives undone,
A call to contemplate, the issues that we face,
And the desperate need, for a new, and better pace.
