In twilight's hush, where shadows play,
A film lay dormant, lost in delay,
Case 39, a horror tale, so bold,
Completed in 2006, but its release, to be told.
Three years of doubt, of fears unspoke,
Producers hesitant, with a troubled cloak,
The box office whispered, a dismal fate,
Critics' harsh words, an unkind state.
Yet, amidst the flaws, a glimmer shines,
Emily Jenkins, a social worker divine,
Renée Zellweger's portrayal, a heartfelt cry,
A dedication to her work, a spirit to apply.
Lilly, a child, with eyes so bright,
Jodelle Ferland's performance, a haunting sight,
Innocence and menace, a delicate dance,
A talent so young, with a promising prance.
The screenplay worn, with conventions old,
Predictable twists, a story oft told,
Christian Alvart's direction, a pacing flaw,
A runtime that stretches, with momentum raw.
But still, the film, a liminal space,
Exists between good and bad, a critical pace,
For horror fans, with expectations low,
Moments of enjoyment, amidst the flaws, may grow.
Ian McShane's presence, a gravitas so fine,
A sceptical detective, with a predictable line,
Bradley Cooper's role, underdeveloped and pale,
A love interest, lost, in a narrative that fails.
Case 39, a film, of mixed design,
A horror tale, with moments that shine,
Not a masterpiece, nor a total fail,
A middling effort, with a haunting trail.
