I was honored when I received an invitation to see Black Panther at Disney Studios.
Everything about this film was amazing! The all-star cast, music, setting and acting exceeded my expectations.
Black Panther Plot:
After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
Black Panther is definitely about a black super hero, but there is more that meets the eye. You do not have to look closely to see the symbolism within this film. Yes, there is a Marvel backstory, but there is more to this film. If you know your Black History or are socially aware it will not be hard to be reminded of the Civil Rights Movement, Black Panthers and prejudices outside and within the black community today and in years past. The message is clear from the beginning until the very end. I advise everyone to wait for the credits to end, because Chadwick Boseman delivers a blatant and powerful message. Not only is there a powerful message, I think we should be on the look out for a sequel.
Growing up I could not have imagined there would ever be a Black super hero. When I was six years old I recall insisting that I be Wonder Woman for Halloween. My parents did not hesitate to get the costume. I wore my costume with pride and later waited for an episode of Wonder Women to come on so I could wear my costume while watching the show. That was the norm for me, because there were not any super heroes that looked like me.
Black Panther may be the first Black super hero, but the cast of strong, Black women in this film display the strength of many women in the black community. I could not help but think of the strong women in my life that have been positive impact in my life. My mother is a perfect example.
Yes, Black Panther is the first black super hero, but I can see where the movie could appeal to all people of all races.
This film displays the desire and strength of one young man that is determined to protect the safety of his people. He is able to accomplish this with the support and strength of his family. No matter what your racial background this is something people of ages should be able to relate to. It may not be the struggle of saving others, but finding the strength within to accomplish whatever it is your heart desires.
Black Panther movie release date is Friday, February 16. This is a film you do not want to miss! Audiences will enjoy this film for years to come.
