Movies that’ll probably get made in the next 10-20 years.

Jurassic Origins

6 billion dollars is the total box office revenue for the Jurassic Park franchise, not including merchandise.

980 million dollars was the box office total for the most recent movie, Jurassic World Dominion, which despite getting bad reviews managed to make 200+ million more than the recent Batman movie, 25 million more than Doctor Strange 2 and likely will get a few more foreign releases this year pumping it to over a billion.

Obviously they’ll try to do other projects in this world, but I think for stories, they’ll go backwards over forwards.

Sam Neill is 74
Jeff Goldblum is 69
Laura Dern is 55

The original cast will likely be too old for a return in 10+ years and I don’t see the Jurassic World cast bringing the same nostalgia.

The most likely path would be a movie about the creation of Jurassic Park, set a decade before the first movie and challenges/issues creating the first dinosaurs.

The big reason I think this will happen is the constant nostalgia for the 80s, seen with Stranger Things, Cobra Kai and Top Gun, which if this was set in the 80s, it’s kind of an easy Stranger Things clone.

The Social Network 2 or better title “The Social Networks”

225 million dollars was the box office for the Social Network in 2010, on a budget of 40 million dollars.

It had eight Academy Award nominations, a huge success in streaming/syndication and WatchMojo, the largest movie youtube channel, named it the greatest film of the century so far.

The cast also has risen in prominence, with Jesse Eisenberg maintaining work, Andrew Garfield becoming Spider-Man and Justin Timberlake maintaining popularity. The only actor who really fell here was Armie Hammer, due to scandals, but it’s unlikely his character would have any big role in a sequel besides a throw away like “The Winkelvy are out in LA pumping bitcoin.”.

The other thing is it’s not like Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t have stories, where the film could focus on the congressional investigation into Facebook, which could be a parallel to the court cases of the first movie.

I’m actually shocked this hasn’t been announced yet or years ago, but my gut feeling on why it hasn’t is David Fincher.

David Fincher is actually my favorite director, doing Fight Club, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Seven, Gone Girl, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and Social Network.

He’s amazing, but hasn’t done a movie sequel once in his career, besides his first film being Alien 3, which he did only to break into movies.

My guess is the studio has asked him, but he just won’t make a sequel, similar to Leonardo Dicaprio, who has never done a movie with a sequel.

Disney Land

69.6 billion dollars was Disney’s 2019 revenue.
45% of that came from Disney Land, Disney World and the cruise business.

18.7 million people visited Disneyland in 2019.
58 million visited Disney World.

Disney has milked every franchise they’ve ever had, but hasn’t done much to make content related to the man himself, Walt Disney.

In fact, so far only two live action movies have been made with depictions of Walt Disney.

The most notable was Saving Mr Banks, which was about the creation of the Mary Poppins, which made a profit on a budget of 35 million, making 118 million.

There was also another failed film with Jon Heder, called Walt Before Mickey, but that wasn’t made by Disney and panned for being completely false to history.

The reason a Disney Land movie would be interesting is while the actual construction of the park only took 13 years, the idea itself to get financed and secured took over a decade. Walt Disney made shows on local TV just to secure financing and went through numerous setbacks to break ground.

A biopic on Walt Disney just to tell this story will probably do fine as a movie, but more importantly, become a marketing vehicle for both the theme parks and brand itself.

Spill

Topic would be a movie focused on the 1992 Stella Liebeck case, where she sued McDonald’s and won 3 million dollars.

The reason I picture this being made is it’d be a courtroom film, for a story almost everyone has heard of, but never got a clear explanation.

The topic being how McDonald’s had over 100 complaints on the heat of their coffee, Stella Liebeck was 79 and nearly died from the burns, she didn’t make the money people thought due to legal fees and was turned into a public laughing stock.

The reason this works is two parts.

First, clarification on the actual story has gone viral before. There was a popular video by Adam Ruin’s Everything, which went viral on both Facebook and YouTube. Another was an HBO documentary called “Hot Coffee”, which did well.

The second is the Micheal Keaton movie, the founder, which was about the creation of McDonald’s.

The financials on the movie aren’t extremely clear, because the budget was disclosed as 7-25 million and the box office was 24 million. That means it either lost money or just broke even.

It wasn’t a popular theater movie, but did well on Netflix, hitting the top three for streamed movies when released there.

The reason being just how tied people are to McDonald’s as a brand and will watch content related to them, good or bad.

Pokemon Snap

434 million dollars was the box office for Detective Pikachu.
150 million was the budget.

That’d normally be considered just a mid level success, but due to the increased merchandise sales, the movie was called a success by the Pokemon Company.

This was the first and so far only attempt at a live action Pokemon movie, where they opted for something more along the lines of a comedy, versus an action film, due to special effects concerns.

It was also based on a fairly obscure Pokemon game, where it sold only 120,000 units in Japan in 2017, but due to the movie and global release, the game sales rose, hitting 4 million units over five years.

For the Pokemon franchise, they are a rare example of a popular video game movie, where most end up as box office disasters, such as Silent Hill, Doom, Final Fantasy and many more.

The reason I’m saying Pokemon Snap would be the next title to adapt into a movie is the numbers.

The original game for the Nintendo 64 was a hit in the 2000s, selling 3.6 million copies, being the 11th highest selling game for that console.

The sequel also did well, selling 2.7 million copies and is the 36th highest selling game on the Nintendo Switch.

Reasons this would work.

  • Won’t be an action movie, keeping the effects simple and in the vain of Detective Pikachu.
  • Extremely easy story to work on, with it being just a kid who takes photos of Pokemon.
  • Easy way to incorporate different pokemon and could boost merchandise or even do more game sales.
