Saw this film at least three times and it was so hypnotic the element of distrust that Bale/Bateman himself creates throughout the entire film, there was an obssession to look neat and yuppie in an overly competitive and shallow society. I thought people recognized it much more in early 2000s, I'm sure it was an MPAA move to obscure this gem upon its depictions of violence and sex, when it is really far more than that context.
