New additions to Netflix in March

in movies •  5 years ago

Netflix is constantly updating their library and many of the lessor titles don't make it to most people's homepages because the streaming service of course is going to prominently feature their own products first, and that is perfectly fine.

Here are a few additions to the library that you might not find out about unless you really dig or if someone tells you.

Outbreak

It's easy to identify with the convenient timing of this coming to Netflix as the world is almost in the sort of panic situation that the film is all about. "Try to remain calm" is the slogan and a lot of that applied to the world that we are living in right now.

Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, and Rene Russo star in the better-than-average thriller about a virus breaking out at first in a small town but then it spreads further and is in danger of getting out of control and wiping out massive portions of the population.

Let's hope that this remains a work of fiction. It's tense, it's fun and is has a good cast with a pretty decent story. I recommend this film and the parallels to what is happening today is pretty humorous if not a little bit scary.

Semi-Pro

One of Ferrell's lessor appreciated films, Semi-Pro is a story about Jackie Moon who is the owner and self-declared star player of a struggling basketball team, The Flint MichiganTropics. He funded the purchase and maintaining of the team with his proceeds from a ridiculous song entitled "Love me Sexy" and that is part of the fun.

Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, and Andre Benjamin (better known as Andre 5000 from Outkast) all give impressive performances and the humor is actually very typical of Ferrell. The movie lost a ton of money in its original run in theaters back in 2008 and I can't understand why that is.

If you are a fan of Ferrell's typical style of comedy you are going to enjoy this one

Goodfellas

If you ask people what is the best mob film of all time they will likely respond with something out of the Godfather saga but this one will almost certainly get a mention. I don't know if it is driven by the recent successful run of The Irishman or not but Netflix waited a long time to pick up this title.

While most people have probably already seen this film, the re-watch value of one of Scorsese's best films is legendary as the soundtrack, the action, and the fact that a lot of the story told here is true-to-life makes this movie, in my mind, even better than the Godfather films, which I personally find quite boring.

Other films worth mentioning that are also being released this month that are worth checking out.

  • Cop Out
  • Corpse Bride
  • There will be Blood
  • Beyond the Mat
  • Silver Linings Playbook (available March 16th)
