When someone wants to deflect attention, they just say they're "nobody". This is how the movie starts... with a man with a bloodied face. Overall, if you suspend your common sense, it's an enjoyable movie.
Hutch Mansell is "nobody", a man living his very mundane suburban life where he misses taking out the trash, takes the bus, goes to work, etc. But after a home invasion, something changes...
"From the producers of John Wick" means one thing: lots and lots of action. After that home invasion, it does happen. It's completely unbelievable, but it's very entertaining. We never really know about Mansell's past, but who cares? Not only is he kicking asses and taking names, but so do his (adoptive?) brother and his retired father, Christopher Lloyd. Hell, Mansell is so dangerous that, when he goes to a tattoo parlor, someone sees a tattoo on his wrist and gets scared.
It reminded me of "Long Kiss Goodnight", where Geena Davis also lived a mundane life until she remembered a more violent past.
In short, you will appreciate this movie if you like action and don't like to think too much. It's almost like a breath of fresh air in this morose atmosphere.
I thought this film was mostly pretty damn great. I didn't like the convenient ending with the showdown shootout though, that was just hokey and unnecessary. They could have ended it in the club scene that happened just before that because that scene with the claymore was just awesome and powerful.
