Captain Marvel is set in the 90s, before the first Iron Man. We don't know much about the movie other than the fact that it is set against the background of the Kree-Skrull wars as Carol Danvers got her powers from Kree technology in the original comics.
For now here is what we know of the cast:
warning might contain spoilers for the movie as I will also speculate about the characters role in the movie.
Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel
In this image Oscar Winner Brie Larson shows off her new ripped back. If you've been following her, you know she's been working out like crazy for months for this role. Studying for the role mainly in air force bases, and mainly from pilots it seems. So we know they won't stick to her first origin story where she is the head of security at an air force base, but not a pilot.
Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell
Jude Law will be playing Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel. He will probably be responsible for Carol Danvers getting her powers and the movie. When he pretends to be humans he goes by Walter Lawson, a scientists that works in the air force.
Ben Mendelsohn as Colonel Yon Rogg
Ben Mendelsohn will probably be playing Yon Rogg, though it is not confirmed. Yon Rogg is Mar-Vell's commander and enemy. In her first origin story Carol Danvers gets her powers when she gets stuck in the middle of a fight between Mar-Vell and Yon Rogg.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as as Nick Fury. We only know that he will have both eyes in this movie. Which means we will probably see him loss his eye in this movie. He did tell Captain America in Captain America: Winter Solider "last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye." I am guessing he trusted a Skrull.
Clark Gregg as Phill Colson.
It's the 90s, so the first Avengers movie didn't happen and Phill Colson is still alive. He teased that he has started filming. We don't know what his role will be in the movie, but probably not too large. There is also a petition to bring his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D co-star Ming Na Wen or agent Melinda May for you, to the movie. I doubt that it will work.
Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva
Minn-Erva is a Kree scientist if I am not mistaken and will probably the big bad of the movie. Hopefully not another case of a hero fighting someone with the same powers that they have (I mean Iron Man, Ant-Man and Black Panther all had a hero fighting a villain with the same powers that they have).
Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser
No one's favorite villain Ronan The Accuser will return in this movie. It is centered around the Kree-Skrull wars, so we have our big bad Kree.
Djimon Hounsou as Korath
Djimon Hounsou will reprise his role as Korath. One of Ronan The Accuser's goons will also return in this movie.
For those who don't know who the Skrulls are, I am not sure I want to ruin the surprise and fun of finding out who they are. But even though the writer of this movie is the same writer as that of Tomb Raider, with this cast, it seems like we are at least in for a fun and nostalgic movie.
Lashana Lynch as unknown
Lashana Lynch was recast after DeWanda Wise left the movie. We don't know who she will be, but a lot of fans are hoping that she will be playing Monica Rambeau. I won't explain who she is, in case you don't know. It might be a very pleasant surprise. Or it might be just people jumping to conclusions because she is a black actress in this particular superhero movie.

See you in my next post.
I'm so glad to see Clark Gregg's name on the list! It was mentioned on Agents of Shield that Fury was his mentor/Supervising Officer, but I doubt the movie writers were thinking about that series. If they were and we do see Ming Na, I'd be super super thrilled!
Ronan's appearance is a surprise too... I'd expected a different Kree leader. For this movie, Nostalgic is the word, all right!

Ronan is important in the comics as well... Really important and the supreme intelligence is just not a good idea for a movie. Too strange.

Very cool that Mar-Vell is in this, to boot. Jude Law is an underrated actor !

I think that lately he is getting the respect that he deserves, I mean first he was cast as young Dumbledore and now Mar-Vell, he is in the big league now.

Can't wait. Should be good. Hopefully the costumes translate well to film. I seem to recall that they looked...awkward.

They did something on set that looks awful, but Kevin Feige said it wasn't the finale version of the costume, so I hope that he is right.
