Ford v Ferrari – Movie Review.jpg

Ford v Ferrari is a really fun and entertaining movie. I'm totally not a cars person. I don't even have a driver's license, but this movie is for everyone. It is more about the corporation system than anything else, but in a relatable way and it still has a lot of car racing in it.

In the movie, Ford Motor Company is going through a slump in sales and have a serious image problem on their hands. Their publicity manager, Lee Iacocca played Jon Bernthal (mostly known as The Punisher), decides that the best way to improve their image is to have the image that Ferrari does, winners, internationally as the never ending winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, the manager of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, refuses to sell the company to Ford despite financial difficulties. He refuses in such a colorful manner that Henry Ford II (played by Tracy Letts) decides to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That requires a lot of things that they don't have.

Like someone who can build them such a car and someone who can drive it. That someone is Carroll Shelby, played brilliantly by Matt Damon. If you don't know anything about cars or racing like me, this name means nothing to you. But he is the guy to get the job done. One of the ways to do it is with a co-designer, mechanic and race driver Ken Miles who is played brilliantly by the brilliant Christian Bale. You can tell that he is having fun on this movie, as it is one of his lighter roles. Together they are going to beat Ferrari. And try and beat Ford who is interrupting them at every step of the way. Especially Leo Beebe, who is played by Josh Lucas. I haven't seen Josh Lucas in a big movie in a long time and I missed him, even though he plays the same character in all of his movies. The cast here is just fantastic.

This movie has the business side of car racing, which is the terrible corporation that both funds everything and hinders everything. And it shows the real talent behind the scenes that is trying to balance all it all out. Plus the amazing racing parts. It was just thrilling to watch.

This entire movie looks fantastic. James Mangold directed the movie. It is his first movie after Logan and he is at his best here. The whole movie has a vintage real world feel to it. The editing is brilliant. The movie does start out a bit slow, but it is necessary and it builds up brilliantly to the race at the end.

If you didn't watch this movie yet you totally should. It was a real good time and occasionally it has a feel good movie vibe to it and sometimes real world problem in it and it is just a good movie.
