Life - Movie Review

Life (2017) was directed by Daniel Espinosa and stars Ryan Reynolds (who kept his Deadpool personality for this role), Rebecca Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hiroyuki Sanada and Olga Dykhovichnaya (finally a Russian actress for a Russian role, it's like a dream come true).

I really liked this movie. I have a feeling that most people who didn't like it are the people who thought it's a venom prequel and were disappointed to find out that it isn't. Which it totally could have been. Also, yeah it is a bit of an Alien rip-off. Oh, and the characters are walking stereotypical clichés. But, it does have some redeeming qualities that set this movie apart.

First, there are relatively low number of cringe worthy plot holes. You know what I'm talking about, like how the aliens get out. Second, most of the astronauts are really capable and capable of making the correct decision and not a stupid one, unless with regards to clause one. Third, this alien is super smart. Like really really smart.

I also really loved the cinematography in this movie. Some shoots in it made we wish I would have seen in it in theaters and not in my humble TV. I really liked how the movie shows low gravity and how up and down don't actually mean anything if there is no gravity. A lot of movies tend to forget that. The design of the alien was pretty cool in my opinion, even original at some point.

The movie's ending left me totally shocked. I totally didn't see it coming. I am still shocked.

It showed up on the very short list of horror movies on my streaming service and most movies there were not actually horror movies (Beautiful Creatures, really? That's horror?!). This movie is space horror and not very gory which is a plus. If you have some time to kill you should check it out.
