Marvel Phase 4 Announced

We knew that Marvel will announce their phase 4 lineup at San Diego Comic-Con. We knew it will make a lot of headlines as there was no really other big announcements coming out of the convention. But no one expected this kind of a brilliant and risk full lineup. I will organize everything according to dates:

May 1, 2020:

Black Widow

It was already speculated that the Black Widow movie will receive the beginning of summer coveted release date and the speculations were spot on. We still don't know much about the movie except the actors and the director of the movie. Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow and the movie will also star David Harbour (Hellboy, Stranger Things), Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Fighting with My Family), O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid's Tale), and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, The Mummy ). The movie is directed by Cate Shortland (Somersault, Lore and Berlin Syndrome ). There are a lot of male directors who made the change from directing horror to directing blockbusters and she's the first female director who took the same route. I am just happy that the first female Avenger is finally getting her own solo movie.

Fall 2020:

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV Show)

It is interesting that this show is called The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and not Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Does this imply despite the ending of Avengers: Endgame that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Captain America? Considering that Chris Harmsworth is staying, I will not be surprised if this is the case. But then again this poster does have the Captain America logo on it. It has also been confirmed that Daniel Brühl will return during the show to reprise his role as Baron Zemo. Apparently with his purple mask.

November 6, 2020:

The Eternals

We don't really know anything about the movie other than the fact that it will probably be a cosmic movie. We also got a more full and interesting cast list: Angelina Jolie(Maleficent) will be playing Thena and not Sersi as it has been previously speculated, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Cinderella) as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry ( If Beale Street Could Talk, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) as Phastos, Salma Hayek (Frida) as Ajak, Lia McHugh (The Lodge) as Sprite, and Dong-seok Ma (Train to Busan) as Gilgamesh (he is sort of connected to the Sumerian mythology Gilgamesh). Directed by Chloé Zhao (The Rider). November is usually a risk taking quirky movies release date for Marvel and I am sure this movie will follow the same line.

February 12, 2021:

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Marvel is interested in that China box office, plus it doesn't hurt that Crazy Rich Asians made a ton of money while having an entirely Asian cast. So Simu Liu has been cast as Shang-Chi ( Kim's Convenience), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) will be the female co-star of the movie and Tony Leung will be the villain as the original and true Mandarin and not that crap we had in Iron Man 3. There are also rumors that we have already seen the ten rings in the MCU. The movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who also directed The Glass Castle which stars Brie Larson, aka Captain Marvel.

Spring 2021:

Wandavision (TV Show)

Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as the Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany will be returning as the Vision, somehow. The show will also introduce Teyonah Parris ( If Beale Street Could Talk) as adult Monica Rambo. Monica Rambeau appeared in Captain Marvel as the daughter of Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau. Young Rambo was played by Akira Akbar who I hope to see cameo in the show. Monica Rambo is a super heroine so we'll see how she gets her powers, I mean hopefully she will get her powers during the show. She was Captain Marvel for a while. Jac Schaeffer who is one of the two writers of the Black Widow movie will be the show runner of the series which is said to be crazy like nothing we have ever seen. It will also lead directly to the DOCTOR Stranger movie.

I just want to point out that Aaron Tyler Johnson was at comic-con taking pictures with the MCU cast, so maybe Scarlet Witch will bring him and Vision back.

Spring 2021

Loki (TV Show)

We know nothing of this show expect that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki to be a villain once more.

Summer 2021

What if… (TV Show)

This TV show is exactly what it sounds like. What if for our favorite Marvel characters. This will be an animated show. Jeffrey Wright will voice The Watcher. We know that the first episode will be what if Peggy Carter took the super-solider serum and not Steve Rogers. All of the original actors will return to voice over their characters.

Fall 2021

Hawkeye (TV Show)

This show will follow Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye as he trains Kate Bishop, a female Hawkeye, and explore his time as Ronin. The training of Kate Bishop will follow the famous comic book written by Matt Fraction. No other casting announcements have been made.

May 2022:

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

This name alone gives so much hope to so many great plotlines. We know that it will be a horror movie, and as the director Scott Derrickson comes from the horror genre (he wrote the pretty good Sinister and wrote and directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose). Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Dr. Strange and will be joined by Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch who we know by now uses magic like Strange himself. We know that there is a possibility that she will be the villain like she has been in the comics. The movie will explore the multiverse, the cosmic and alternate universes and timelines. Sounds pretty exciting. Especially as I am a big horror fan.

November 5, 2021:

Thor: Love and Thunder

November is the month for Thor movies and it will probably be Chris Hemsworth's finale appearance as Thor as he passes the mental to Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. Yes, we are getting Female Thor based on Jason Aaron's run of the comic. I know that a lot of people love this run, but I didn't so I am not really excited by it. Although it could be great if done correctly. Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Valkyrie, the King of New Asgard and will explore the LGBT aspects of the character. Taika Waititi will return to direct the movie. Sinking WB Akira plans as he was meant to write and direct the movie.

It seems that phase 4 will be on the sort side. What do you think of all of these shows and movies? Are you missing the
connective tissue that the movies used to have? Are you excited for the future of the MCU as I am?
