Still/born Movie Review

Yes, it’s time for another horror movie review. I was super tired when I watched this movie, and it kept me awake, so I can tell you that it was sufficiently interesting. It builds up tension. It really sucks you in. I also fell asleep the moment that this movie ended, because it just didn’t stay with me. It was good, but not that good.

The movie follows Mary (Christie Burke), a mother who gives birth to twins and one of them is stillborn. She returns to her new house with one empty crib, and her husband who works too much and tries to cope. Unsuccessfully. To the movie’s credit the husband is not a total inconsiderate idiot in the way that most horror movies tend to portray such husband and fathers.

As the movie progresses Mary becomes more and more convinced that a demon wants to take her remaining son, while we are made aware that her mental condition is deteriorating.

Now the beginning of the movie is really really good. It builds up the proper amount of tension, makes you cares about Mary, not so much her husband, and Mary’s behavior seems only semi-illogical. Towards the end of the movie it falls into horror movie clichés. I found myself saying why would anyone do that way too many times.
Still, if you’re a fan of horror movies and you have nothing else to watch this might be a nice one to watch.

I give it 6.5/10
