The Black Widow Movie is starting to Take Shape

We've been waiting for this movie for almost a decade, it better be Winter Solider level of fantastic. For now, it is starting to shape up and is rumored to start filming in June, even though there is no official release date. I think that the success of Captain Marvel will put this movie on the fast track.

It will be directed by Cate Shortland, as now female directors are the requirement for female-led movies. The most interesting movie on Cate Shortland's resume is Berlin Syndrome. I love horror movies, but not from this subgenre. I have to say that it does look like a good movie, so I have high hopes that she will do a great job with the Black Widow movie. Plus horror directors are doing great work with superhero movies, from Aquaman to Shamaz!, looks like horror directors gone superhero is a safe bet.

The writing due for this movie is interesting. Both are unproven writers in my opinion. Ned Benson is most known for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby which means nothing to me. Jac Schaeffer is more interesting. She wrote Olaf's Frozen Adventure which was poorly received. But she has The Hustle lined-up, plus Disney must have liked her, because she will also write the first episode of The Vision and Scarlet Witch TV show on Disney+.

Obviously Scarlett Johansson will return as Natasha Romanoff, our favorite Black Widow. There are now three actors rumored to join the movie: David Harbour (Stranger Things, Florence Pugh (Fighting with My Family) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy). I am disappointed that there is no Jeremy Renner so far, as they have a really interesting relationship, plus, what did happen in Budapest? Florence Pugh might be another survivor of the Black Widow program. I understand that that is a popular theme in the Black Widow comics. It's interesting that Rachel Weisz is in this movie as she tends to avoid blockbusters like a plague. We don't know anything about the plot of the movie yet, or who anyone is playing.

There is another villain rumored for this movie, the taskmaster. He appeared in two old comics that I covered: 1 and 2. It appears from here that he is a behind the scenes sort of villain. The one that helps other villains. It sounds like it could fit with this movie and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
