Things just keep getting and better for the MCU and Marvel. Yes, Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest grossing movie of all time made some serious headlines and made fans all around the world super happy. It seems like the wasted rerelease is forgiven and forgotten.
But even more good news have emerged for Marvel as Spider-Man: Far From Home has just joined the billion dollars club. Wow. Considering that this totally awesome movie is generating zero online discussion it is pretty amazing that it made so much money. How did the internet not explode after that post-credit scene is beyond me. Also, there have been six Spider-Man movies before this one, and it is the first Spider-Man movie to cross this important and rare line. This just emphasizes how important and useful the Marvel/Sony deal is.
What is also amazing is that all of Marvel's movie in 2019 have joined the billion dollars club. Captain Marvel has made a billion dollars, Avengers: Endgame has joined the much more exclusive two billion dollars club and now Spider-Man: Far From Home has joined the billion dollars club. Sure, being close to an Avengers movie has been proven to be a useful boost at the box office, but it may be that people will go to see every Marvel movie, even if it not an ensemble must see movie.
I think it is a little bit of both. Captain Marvel had a brilliant marketing campaign and all the hate around the movie and Brie Larson just made people more curious about the movie. Everyone knew she wasn't going to be a big character in Avengers: Endgame and they were right. So maybe the success of Avengers: Endgame didn't effect Captain Marvel so much. But man was she used brilliantly in Avengers: Endgame in the little screen time she did have. Avengers: Endgame is Avengers: Endgame, there is nothing more to say about it this amazing ending to the infinity saga. Spider-Man: Far From Home was connected to Avengers: Endgame and was marked as such, but I think that most people just came to see a fun Spider-Man movie and got something way better. So it is hard to say just how much influence being before and after an Avengers movie had on the box office of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Will all Marvel movies make a billion dollars from now on? I think that most of them will, or they will be in that sweet 800 million dollars spot. The real boost at the box office will be having more than one Avenger in a movie. Black Widow not only has an amazing cast, but will probably have at least a cameo from Hawkeye and hopefully Captain America as well. I heard a rumor that Doctor Strange 2 will be Avenger 4.5 so that's a billion dollars movie as well. I am not sure about the rest of the phase 4 movies, but they will probably make a lot more than Ant-Man's disappointing 500-600 million dollars. You don't see any Ant-Man 3 on the horizon for a reason. Being connected to an Avengers movie did nothing for Ant-Man at the box office. The rest of the Avengers are much more of a safe bet.
The future of the MCU seems very green. Dollars green.
What do you think? Have Marvel fans multiplied or is it each person goes to see each movie 5 times at the cinema? I do see each Marvel movie at least twice at the cinema, how about you?
