It's been a while since I commented on how successful Wonder Woman is. People's love for the movie didn't end when it cinematic life ended. Perhaps because the movie was snubbed by the Oscars, some of the official DVD and Blu-Ray says sales information has been published. When it was first released after a flashy event the DVD sales for the movies went to number 1. But Wonder Woman is not a movie that plays the short turn game, it plays the long run game. According to the-numbers.com Wonder Woman in now number 37 in the All-Time Best-Selling Blu-ray's list. She's passed a few notable movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. When Patty Jenkins published an article about this, the article stated that Wonder Woman is number 40, but I guess it's been a while since they checked the site which they refereed to. Theses numbers are only limited to the United States. In the DVD corner the movie ended up as number 8 in the most sold DVD's of 2019 in the United States. The Oscars may have snubbed Wonder Woman, but the ancillary markets did not.

Also such great numbers at the ancillary markets imply that Wonder Woman 2 will open a lot higher than the $103 million dollars that the first movie opened with.

Sort Order:

In the superhero genre, "Wonder Woman" stands out as a particularly well-made, particularly positive, particularly enjoyable film even if one doesn't note the outstanding fact that it is the first film in the category wrapped around a classic female comic-book hero from a major publisher. Not only was its debut a watershed moment for female representation, the movie itself is sharp, acrobatic and fights the good fight with a smile. For these, and many other reasons, "Wonder Woman" is incredibly easy to fall in love with. https://www.salon.com/2018/01/23/wonder-woman-oscars-snubbed/

If Batman movies got nominated, it blows my mind that Wonder Woman was passed over. Patty Jenkins obviously created a blockbuster and the No Man's Land scene, alone, was Oscar worthy. Costumes. Any number of categories deserved at least a nomination. This total shut-out reeks of misogyny or anti-Semitism or something. I just don't get it.

Oscars hate genre movies as they are killing the small and medium movies. Only Logan got a legit Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay.
