Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil Film Review

TL;DR: If you enjoyed the first Maleficent movie, you're probably going to love this one!
We return to see that Aurora has become Queen of the Moors by appointment of Maleficent after the fall of her kingdom, which was turned over to the people. The movie begins with a trio of thieves entering the moors to abduct some fey. The most timid of the trio grabs one, but it bites him and he runs off after it while the other two wait. Maleficent turns up and kills the two intruders but somehow doesn't know there's a third. Strange. That man gets back to the castle of Ulsted where he turns over the mushroom fairy to a very surly man behind a door.

Then, Aurora is presiding over her court of the fey of the moors when they are interrupted by a little fey who takes her crown and runs about with it. Prince Philip of Ulsted makes an appearance and asks Aurora to marry him, to which she responds "yes!" It all seems to go uphill from there, but the movie makers decided to be very transparent, so we quickly discover that it's all part of the Queen of Ulsted's evil plan. But what is the plan for? Well, it's immediately plan that it's going to involve war, because she's got legions under the castle working hard on musket balls and other weapons.

I don't want to spoil the rest for you but suffice it to say that there's love, wedding plans, an engagement party, strife, betrayal, misplaced trust due to manipulation, treachery, a completely unexpected reunion (for us and almost everyone in the film), massacre, death, lies, imprisonment, the truth is revealed and, well, I guess I've already given you enough to whet your appetite. Oh, and a good dollop of action, too, along with magic and a wide array of cute (and some scary) fey!

Put it this way: The movie had my kids and I in tears and my son is almost NEVER brought to tears by a movie.

Oh, by the way - unlike Kevin Costner, Angelina Jolie can actually speak with a British accent! (lol!) I couldn't resist! We recommend it highly!
