So the movie releases in theaters in a couple of days but I was lucky enough to get a couple of pre-release tickets to this movie and to be honest I went in with low expectations but to my surprise it beat all my expectations.
John Cena plays Superintendent Jake Carson who goes by 'Supe' is in charge of the Redding California Smoke Jumpers in a relatively small fire station. Jake's dad was also a smoker jumper who died in the line of duty whose dream was to see Jake also become a smoke jumper and eventually a Division Commander one day. Jake lives every day of his life with utmost discipline and extreme focus to fulfill his father's dream.
One day, after containing a fire, Supe loses half of his staff to a bigger station and is left behind with only 3 guys (Axe, Mark and Rodrigo) who really believe in him. These three are really funny characters in their own right and have their own unique characteristics.
Axe never talks, holds an axe in his hand at all times and is kind of like Ser Gregor Clegane in Game of Thrones. Mark, who is a former accountant, comes from an ancestry full of accountants was once rescued by Supe and gets so inspired that he decides to quit his comfy accounting job to join Supe. Rodrigo, who is the cook of the station and a very timid lead pilot on duty loves to quote inspirational things from famous people, only caveat being he quotes the wrong person and also usually makes up the quotes as well. All these 3 are hilarious in their own right.
So one day they get paged to save some people in a burning cabin. With half of their main staff gone, they do this in a very clumsy way and they rescue 3 kids out of the cabin. The kids have to be dropped home after the rescue but because their parents were out of town, Supe decided to keep the 3 mischievous and naughty kids at the station for a night before their parents would pick them up the next day. What happens next is worth watching in the movie and I will not reveal much else. If you do end up watching the movie, let's discuss in the comments below. Hope you guys like the movie!
