Top Gun 2 is coming! - Starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer

Its been over 30 years since the original, but a sequel to the popular movie "Top Gun" is in the works. 

 

In 1986 “Top Gun” was the highest grossing movie released that year. I recall watching it and was blown away by the incredible graphics, action, and the soundtrack seemed to be playing in my head constantly (like it or not). There was even a surge in military enlistees the following year. It seemed every kid wanted to either be “Maverick” or “Goose” and grow up to be a navy pilot that “felt the need...the need for speed”.

 

One of the most interesting things about the film is that it used a fair amount of actual military equipment and personnel. The film spent over 1.8 million (which was a lot 30 years ago) to rent a real naval air station, aircraft carriers, and real planes. Much of the filming required this kind of equipment, since the capabilities of special effects in movies was no where near where it is today.  

  

The film is now over 30 years old and a lot has changed in the state of the world and combat. It will be interesting to see what the actual plot will be… Will Maverick be an instructor pilot? Will the Ice Man be looking for revenge on Maverick? We will see, but both Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer have signed up and are reportedly “excited” about the project. By the time the movie is released, it will be somewhere between 32 - 33 years after the original. Personally, I would not have ever guessed that there would be a sequel!
