The Score ~ Amazing Cast

The Score is one of those movies that sizzled for me. I had the sense that there was some real life tension during many of the scenes which is absolutely unsurprising when dealing with epic acting talents like Marlon Brando, Ed Norton, Robert De Niro, Angela Bassett and more.

Released in 2001 I am still very impressed at the relevant filmmaking and unbelievable dedication of the individual actors.

One of the reasons I revere this film so much is that it was Marlon Brando’s final full length film. He was reportedly an absolute bear on the set with director Frank Oz and took to calling him Miss Piggy. Frank played the Muppet character Miss Piggy from 1976 to 2001 and Brando appeared to get quite a kick out of attempting to torment Frank.

Eventually the tension between the two could only be alleviated by Robert De Niro directing Brando’s scenes with Frank Oz watching on a monitor from another room.

I think it was plain to see that Marlon Brando’s coping skills with becoming older and less relevant in the entertainment industry was beginning to take a serious toll. I definitely have to tip my hat to Robert DeNiro for being a class act in this regard.

I for one am very grateful that he accepted the role in The Score, which still very much showcased his wonderful talent.

As for Ed Norton and his portrayal of a mentally disabled man, all I can say is wow. Ed is known as a scrapper on set who will always fight for creative control and is well known to make several script revisions on the fly.

I for one really love his talent and his absolute commitment to every role he takes on. It was widely known that he fought like a wildman for creative control of American History X. Who knows, maybe that’s why it was so successful.

As for Robert De Niro this role was simply made for him. He plays a highly analytical thief with rock solid patience to build a life that contains everything he ever wanted. But the opportunity to participate in the score presented to him will set him up for life and allow him to finally retire and own outright the jazz club he operates.

I always love to hear about the movies others really love.
