Helmed by the blockbuster "hugot" director Antonette Jadaone, Love You To The Stars and Back follows the story of Mika and Caloy as they embark on a very special and life-changing roadtrip. It was applauded and highly-acclaimed by movie critics and was warmly received by moviegoers. The reason behind it success relies on the characters' chemistry and the film's impressive storyline and cinematography. It has all the right kind of elements for a successful film.
The story revolves around Mika, a lonely teenager who has been gloomy eversince her mother passed away. Her father found a new partner in life and is expecting a new baby which didn't sit well with her. She left their home and went on a roadtrip with a very weird mission—look for aliens while doing a chant at the top of a mountain. Along the way, she bumped into Caloy, a lively and humurous boy who eventually became her partner in looking for "aliens."
Their funny conversations and different encounters were so natural and raw. It almost didn't feel like you're watching a movie but simply listening to two people you know personally. They can make your heart flutter and will undeniably make you smile. Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia really has an undeniable chemistry onscreen. They were able to ace their respective roles as evident by the audience's reactions. Until the story reached the most dreaded part. Caloy revealed that he has cancer as if it was just a simple fever. Several heartbreaking scenes followed that will make definitely make you cry.
This movie is so full of teen angst but you wouldn't think about complaining because you'd learn to embrace the pain as part of the film's beauty. There was an equal amount of fun, kilig and drama. It would surely give you a rollercoaster of emotions. The movie gives a satsifying and justifiable ending and will surely teach you a lot of lessons not just about love but about life in general. It's not just about teenagers meeting and falling in love with each other. No, it's way more than that. It's about family, disappointment, acceptance and sacrifices.
I strongly recommend this movie to everyone. But make sure to bring a lot of tissue papers and a bottle of water. It's a tear-jerker movie but definitely worth your time and tears!
