Back in September, we visited Puerto Rico for a house hunting trip to make absolutely sure we're ready for such a big move. We had a fantastic time, and I had some videos and pictures still on my phone I never got around to putting together, so here's a quick video from our trip in September, 2018:
We are going forward with the move and have booked our actual moving flight for December 4th, 2018. It's more than a little scary, to say the least. We don't know exactly where we'll be living as we didn't finalize anything yet (September being three months out from our planned move time in December made that a bit difficult). We got to see some really nice homes, as you can see in the video, and I wanted to give a special shout out to Ricardo Rodriguez, a realtor for Sotheby's International Realty:
He did a fantastic job of showing us around even though we're just little fish. He normally works with high-end clients from around the world for high value, luxury properties. As a favor to @sean-king and because Ricardo is a great guy, he showed us some beautiful homes more in our price range, as he did back in March as well, and made us feel right at home. I can't thank him enough for the time and attention he gave us. Please, if you know anyone looking for high-end property in Puerto Rico, definitely contact him through his Facebook page. It's so encouraging to know that not everyone is just chasing big dollars, but some people still care about just helping a family out. I've always liked the phrase, "if you help enough people, you'll never have to worry about money" and I think that's true for people like Ricardo.
We've been selling our things here in Nashville and getting ready, though we're also traveling out to the UK for a few days prior to Steemfest3 in Krakow, Poland. To say life has been a little crazy lately is an understatement. Once we get back, we'll have less than three weeks to get everything organized before the big move. The first week we'll be staying in an AirBnb, hoping to finalize a place to rent as we get settled. From there, we may purchase a place if we find a deal. Either way, it's going to be an adventure.

Wow! Fantastic and best wishes to you and yours! Out of all the places in the world why Puerto Rico? Just curious. Sounds like crunch time began yesterday? From what I've heard, Puerto Rico also has significant tax advantages in regards to crypto, but I think I remember something about those rules expiring in the new year. I can't leave because I'm taking care of an elderly parent. Good luck with your move...

It is good sometimes to just go with no real plans set in stone, I think it leaves the way open for more opportunities to come your way. Sounds like you know the area you wish to move to so that helps a lot. What a good friend @lukestokes I was visiting and watching your video, and it looks great I like it very much, beautiful arts, beautiful paradise, and landscape that you can see from the window, you have some very beautiful children and they are just like you, your children look like they love you very much and they look very happy next to you. @lukestokes, I hope and wish that you will going to find an Blessed Home and Environment. And why i am saying environment because if we have an Peaceful environment then our life will be much more Ease. And yes, it's not that easy to find an Ideal house quickly because whenever we want to buy a house then for sure there are many aspects which surrounds in our mind and until we will not match with those aspects or reach close to it, we will continue searching. From Nashville to Puerto Rico. That's a decent-sized move, distance and culturally. It's a US territory, so I imagine there's a lot of familiar things there, but still.
So, no federal taxes because it's a territory, which includes no taxes on crypto, too? How are things there now? Is it as bad as some of the politicians there have tried to make it out to be after the hurricane?
I wish you well. I'm looking for the same kind of thing—tax and regulatory relief, preferably on an island somewhere. I haven't made any moves to make it happen, though.
You mentioned potentially looking at Mexico, too. I'm not sure if I could recommend that as a first option, so I hope the move to Puerto Rico works out well for everyone. Being able to work from anywhere is definitely a plus and one I hope to have again.

Exciting adventures surely await you and the family! There are great communities down there and the great thing is that you are only 1-2 hours away from anything given the size of the island. Sounds like a great adventure for sure! I had moved from Germany to Chicago almost 30 years ago and lived there for some 10 years. Although I didn't stay in the end, I think it was a great experience and it certainly helps to expand ones horizon!
